Liverpool F.c.

<br />I must say the phrase I most dislike to hear from a player at Liverpool 'I want to stay at Liverpool and I am going to fight for my place in the team'<br /><br />It what it nearly always means is 'It has already been made clear to me than I have no place in the first team but no-one else wants me on my current wages, so I am sticking around'.<br /><br />We have seen it with Poulsen Jovanovic and now Cole. You cant entirely blame the players but it does mean the team is stuck.<br /><br />I cant help feeling that LFC have done some good business but it has been made pretty clear that they have to get rid of the 'deadwood' to make further acquisitions. I rather hope that this is where DC excels. If we are stuck with Cole say next year it will be at the expense of a first team alternative.<br />
<br /><br /><br />

it actually has a name in the game, it's called 'winston bogarde syndrome'.

christian purslow thank you very much.

<br />He achieved zero success last season except maybe the immediate burst of excitement and enthusiasm which got you some results and saved you from a relegation scrap (seriously). I thought your season ended badly, results-wise.<br />
<br /><br />i don't know about anyone else but i for one am relieved and happy that we have an evertonian in our midst able to tell us what the definition of 'success' is.<br /><br />it's sort of like having a blind man telling you that the mona lisa isn't really all that to look at.<br />
<br /><br />But he'd be right, wouldn't he. She's a right minger.<br /><br />And on the basis that a broken clock is right twice a day, I will continue trying to bring (especially) you to your senses and to objectively assess your team in its new "post-success" phase.<br /><br />Who knows, We may even make an Everton fan of you yet - or a Man U fan, if you still hanker after CONSISTENT footy success anytime soon! <img src='http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' /><br />
<br /><br /><br />

similarly only an evertonian is so privileged as to consider the most beautiful artwork in history a 'minger'.

everton wives, run for your lives.

Wonderful. I've outed StevieH as a slavish adherent to the Western Artistic Canon. I prefer my art appreciation to be a more subjective experience. A bit like me footy.

Then again I thought Rafa was rubbish too, but hope for better things from King Comolli next season.

Another 3-0 drubbing in a pre-season friendly by Galastray. I know these things dont mean much but I also know they werent arranged so that we lose 3-0. That is 12 goals conceded in the last 4 friendlies. Admittedly most of the first team is missing but what is the point of employing a secondary bunch of players that can be whipped 3-0 by Hull or Galastray.

There are something like 53 players in the 'first team' about half of which we probably dont ever want to play for us. I hope Comolli gets tough and kicks the crap out. There is absolutely no point in thinking that if you pay Joe Cole 5m or Poulsen 3m not to play for you for another year they are going to be worth more at the end of it.

i agree you should offload the rubbish but thats easy to say. Who's going to take them? For example; Poulsen is a lower league player, nothing more, and Joe Cole is a luxury player at best. These guys represent significant overheads. Mindyou, Redknapp would snap up Cole would'nt he because there would be a very nice tickle innit for him. Fortunately though, i don't think Levy will be signing from the same hymn sheet.

I agree with your comment. Not only is rubbish more difficult to get rid of than you perhaps imagine, it is far easier to 'keep it' for another year on the basis that it 'might come right'.

So there is always the 'lets keep Joe Cole' cos he will get fit and then people will want him etc.. That Agger will finally start playing some games. That Aqualani will find a decent Expresso in Liverpool. My view is that the first cut is the cheapest.

So cut your losses and move on - give Joe Cole 5m and tell him to piss off etc....

they're on absolutely stupid wages - a legacy of the moron purslow's time. poulsen, jovanovic, cole, even ngog. these lads aren't going to take 80% pay cuts just to play first team football. so we'll end up loaning them out like we have with aquilani and watching their transfer values depreciate as their contracts run down. it's the same position city are in but they can afford it better than we can.

It mirrors the problem Spurs have. Bentley will be financially painful either way.

I can tell you considering our wage bill is 50% higher than yours and you have beaten us in the league over the last two seasons that any problem you have with your wages in regards to players doesnt in anyway 'mirror' ours. So I am 100% confident that our problem is far greater than yours so there......

Well that does make me feel better but its still not ideal having JJ skipping around the training sessions, Bentley, as usual, acting like a complete helmet, Jermaine "could'nt score in nana" Defoe, and some pointy shouty bloke on the books for a princely 280k per week is it.

Footballs long gone raving mad pal!

Wonder if any of these guys will be sold? Bentley was awful last year as well....as for PSB our top earning striker....how has he got away with it for so long??

Aquilani though is in a class of his own.....

What's to stop sides agreeing to sell superflous players, say in Liverpool's case, Cole, for whatever they can get for him, and telling the player he can keep X % (anything in his case up to 100%, as he came on a free) of the transfer fee, to gild the lily, and to get him out the door, and onto the books of someone else on lower wages.

Or, sell a player they don't need for what they can get as a transfer fee but agree to pay, say, 50% of the player's wages for year 1, 40% year 2 etc, to the buying team.

Are there any Premier League regulations against such creative deal-doing?

i think it's in the terms of their contracts. there's some regulation that pervents clubs from buying out players' contracts and just making them redundant effectively too. contracts really are weighted hugely in the player's favour and don't cover the club if he turns out to be crap at his job etc.

"Referee! We haven't even kicked off yet!"

This apparent fan criticism is a bit harsh - and a bit early, for Prince Kenny and King Comolli.

Its just one mans opinion isn't it! So what....

My only question would be as to why Liverpool fans would blame Kenny Dalglish for paying for "over priced" players. That side of things has absolutely nothing to do with him has it?

How come Meireles is deemed surplus to requirements ? He was one of your better players last season.

Jovanovic,Poulsen and Cole I can understand...... but a financial nightmare getting rid of those three !

Why would a section of Liverpool fans be so thick as to blame the manager for paying over the odds for a player when the club is employing Damien Comolli? Its a bit like forgeting the groundman and blaming the chief scout when the playing pitch is in poor condition.

he's not really surplus to requirements, he's just one we might sell for a profit on what we paid if someone's interested in him. and when all are fit he's probably not in the starting XI anyway.

jovanovic, cole and poulsen we're going to end up paying to leave.

yes, shit news that is. perhaps not a coincidence that most of the signings we've spent good money on this year all play in positions which gerrard does / could too.

So anyone have any idea where Fabio Aurelio has been? Injured yet again? Lost with the baggage on one of our preseason matches?

I haven't seen him figuring at all and been no mention of him having an injury.

When fit he'd be our first choice left back, I would think. Telegraph reporting that we are close to signing Enrique, but we'll see if that comes true. We really need someone new at this position, don't we?

Insua may stay or go, I don't know what's going to happen with him. But I think he could stay as backup, he's honestly not that bad. He was a bit young when he had to play so many games but I think he's a solid enough squad player. With Aurelio incognito and unable to stay fit for more than a few games at at time I could see us definitely keeping Insua.

But, if not, we still have Jack Robinson though he's still young as well.

Anyway, I am rambling on here about a left back. We need a quality, first choice left back with experience and who stays fit!

Henderson looks a livewire, to me. Think he'll turn out to be a great signing and can play right away, to make up for Gerrard's sickness. I am a fan of Adam from when he was at Blackpool though haven't seen too much amazing play from him in preseason, yet. But with Lucas, back, yeah, I think we'll have plenty of cover for Gerrard while he's injured. Obviously when he's fit and on form Gerrard's one of the best midfielders in the world but he's only getting older now, and probably not quite as explosive as he used to be. Will be interesting to see how the season goes for him and if we can see him at top form again, when fit.

Agree on Henderson Jimhim, watched the Valerenga game on LFC TV last night and he impressed again - moves with ease, can do the lot -whipped in some decent crosses on the right, got back, late runs into the box...Looked like the only one who doesn't need pre season fitness.

Henderson, Downing and Aqualani stood out last night in particular was Aqualani !!- never seen him look so up for a game as last night, sublime touches and two thunderbolt strikes- set up both goals from corners also.

My gut tells me he is playing to get the move - recent AC Milan rumor.

I hadn't realised every team Liverpool have played against pre-season have put three past them.

Is there a defender (or defenders) not performing, and do you need to buy anyone?

I also saw Henry saying anything but a top four finish will be a disappointment, but he can't be serious - or can he.

I would think a Europa place would be progress.

It is probably a bit early to come to any conclusions about what any team can achieve next year given that there is a month to go in this transfer window. I imagine that Henry will be a bit disappointed if he is left with the current squad trying to achieve a top 4 place.
