Dalglish on what LFC stands for

9th Jan 2012

Kenny Dalglish today insisted he would never have agreed to return as Liverpool manager if he felt the Club wasn't fully committed to the fight against discrimination.

One year on from Dalglish's emotional return, the boss has pledged that everybody at Anfield will continue to play their part in helping eradicate all forms of racism from the world of football.

"This is a worldwide football institution, this is a football club that has supporters of every creed, colour, nationality that you could think of," said Dalglish. "It's been fantastically successful, we've been fortunate that such a really sound, solid base was set up with Shanks in the sixties and seventies, carried on through many people - Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, administrative staff upstairs, the Chairman John Smith, Peter Robinson, the support has grown and grown and within that support, there's a fantastic cross-section of people. We would never have that support if we were in any way, shape or form prejudiced or discriminatory against any one part of the community.

"Our football club is based on being a football club serving the community, and whoever is in the community we will treat as an equal. It never has been a club that's discriminated and never will be one that discriminates against anyone else. For us, the football club is more important than any one individual, whether that person be a supporter, a player or the owner. It's not about the individual, it's about the football club and we should be very proud of this football club.

"Over the past few weeks there has been a perception that the football club isn't doing what it should be doing, but I don't think the football club would ever go down that road. We will always support the official campaigns related to racism.

"Obviously there was a big issue with Luis. The players showed support for Luis which was fantastic, but then some people interpreted that wrongly as the players saying they're not interested in the fight against racism. That is totally and utterly rubbish. If we can help to eradicate racism or discrimination from any part of the society, with the help of anybody at Liverpool Football Club, then that help will be forthcoming.

"We don't want racism anywhere near football and certainly not anywhere near this football club.

"Then we move on and we had another incident with young Tom Adeyemi for Oldham. All we can say - it's a police matter - is if Tom, the police want any help in any way, shape or form then we'll give it to them. For me, the most important thing is that as a football club we all stick together. We all have a responsibility to act responsibly. The person who shouted whatever he shouted at Tom that upset him, if we can help the police find out who it is and he gets charged, then whatever we can do to make the punishment as severe as it could be will be done.

"For me, it's a couple of days past a year since I was asked to come back. It was an honour and a privilege for me to come back and I can guarantee to the supporters out there that there is no way I would have come back to this football club if I thought it was in any way, shape or form racist or discriminatory. I wouldn't be here.

"I was brought up in Glasgow, I'm very proud to be a Glaswegian. That's had its own undercurrent. In those days back there I was used to it, I was brought up to be respectful to the teachers, to be respectful to policemen, but also to be respectful to people, irrespective of their colour, their creed or their religion and I don't think it stood me in too bad a stead.

"For me, that's the way I'll continue my life. I was told also that if you tell the truth then you won't go too far wrong, so I will always maintain that stance and I think that's the stance that this football club has always maintained.

"If we can help in any way, shape or form with anything the FA put forward regards anti-racism, we'll be first up to the plate."

I thought the Alan Wark rumours sounded a bit far fetched. Is that a loan deal from his Thai club then?

Ii think its a sad refection on the state of football when a legend of the game like Kenny Dalglish feels the need to make a statement like this. The media goes beserk because a pair of idiots shouted something rude to a player. In a crowd of 40000.

To my mind this has blown out of all rational proportions due to an FA agenda to stick it to Blatter for having us over in the votes for the world cup.

"If we can help in any way, shape or form with anything the FA put forward regards anti-racism, we'll be first up to the plate."

Kenny is a brilliant man, manager and ex-player, but these statements should be being made by somebody else. Can we please stop putting this extra pressure onto Kenny. I understand that he wants to defend the club and players to the death, and we love him for it. But I feel that this is bringing him down at the moment, and could drag him down further. I think that we need to release a statement to the press, saying that Kenny will no longer comment on this. We could then have somebody present at all interviews to take over any questions about the Suarez incident and the whole Liverpool - Racial comments fiasco. I know that some <deleted> who write stories will distort the reasons for this, but I worry about Kenny's health as well as as the clubs status

The Times has a story that Newcastle are trying to buy back Carroll for 15m.

The Times is usually quite reliable on Liverpool but this article is not from Tony Barrett.

Journalists-----------I never believe them unless they quote somebody else. It's why it's called a story.coffee1.gif

Where's StevieH ?

been staying out of online debates mate as there's so much <deleted> flying around. LFC is being used as a pinata by the media at present and the vast majority of it has been sensationalist, misinformed guff. it's hard to get a decent discussion about liverpool right now and i don't enjoy my team and club being used as a punching bag.

suffice to say that i am still behind suarez and feel he's been used as a patsy, if the lad from oldham was called something racist then i hope the person responsible never sets foot in any football ground again and i am really, really looking forward to the FA cup match against the glams. though i also acknowledge that it has the potential to be absolutely disastrous. but wow what a match to be at, the atmosphere will be electric. i just hope patrice evra doesn't see his arse about the entire kop turning up wearing klan hoods.

But if the lad from France was called something racist it is ok for the kop to turn up wearing klan hoods?

I think you made the correct decision not posting if you come up with hypocratic <deleted> like that, self pity city at its best.

Sorry Stevie jap.gif

It's just that the famous scouse sense of humor has been missing lately. This thread has been more like a visit to the Samaritans licklips.gif

Good performance against City though..

we've been beaten like a pinata recently though mate, and so it's a bit understandable if we've circled the wagons.

yeah we were good against city, particularly enjoyed the second half alamo nonsense. old school. hopefully we'll take it to stoke tonight and get a good home win. think gerrard will play up and hopefully we'll see a bit more out of carroll.

Dropping points at home against average and crap sides this season doesn't bode well for the CL, just like last season. And this may get worse now the Oscar-winning One Man in your one man team is out.

But sc they were obviously playing for a draw, why else would you play 5 defenders, 4 midfielders and leave your star striker on the bench 40.gif

Kenny messed up there didn't he?

Maybe but he is not blessed with a lot of options at the moment.

Suarez is out. Lucas is out. Enrique had a stomach bug but played anyway. Spearing is out. Maxi and Bellamy can only play limited games as the doctors allow. Agger was out. Caroll, Kuyt and Downing are all short of form (Carroll apparent permanently so).

I obviously didnt watch the game but he didnt have the greatest of attacking choices going into it.

I spoke to a few scousers last night. They were all far from happy seeing Bellamy and Carroll on the bench. "Win the game first then send on the subs..."

Oh the lone Evertonian was chuckling away.....biggrin.png

Yeah I admit that if Carroll had played he would have almost certainly scored a hat trick.

BTW it is a good question why Carroll didnt start.

There seems to be two schools of thought on Carroll a) he is crap (B) he needs a strong run of games to restore confidence/fitness/fit into the team/refind his form. Obviously with Suarez around he doesnt get a lot of game time but I do find it a bit surprising that with his suspension Carroll isnt given the opportunity that many people think he deserves. Putting Kuyt upfront seems a strange decision as he is as much out of form as Carroll and given he is 32 or something time is not on his side to refind it.

He's just a pisshead Abrak...that's why he doesn't get a game.

To be to Andy, have you actually heard any recent reports of any bad behaviour on his part?

To be even fairer to Andy, he doesn't play because he's not very good. The lad is out of his depth. His true value would be about 10m based on his youth, but the comical 35m must be like a millstone around his neck. Add to this an unrealistic expection that comes with 35m and there you have it.

No one should have paid more than 10m for the lad in the first place.

I would have paid more than 23m for Suarez mind
