Hi,

After much soul searching and hours and hours of trips to showrooms and looking on internet, Ive decided to take the plunge and buy a Toyota (pickup) which personally I feel is a great drive as well as having the after-sales availability etc afterwards.

My only dilemma is to which 4 door, A/T Vigo to buy......Ive heard from a few people that the 4x4 hold their value better than 2 wheel drives? however I doubt very much than I would ever need the option of 4x4. My budget is around 930k though if I thought spending an extra 50-60k would hold the price better when I came to sell it, then I would do this. The models Im torn between are:-

Prerunner 3.0G A/T (50th Anniversary edition) - 925.000

Prerunner 3.0G A/T (2 wheel drive) - 918.000

Does anyone have any tips regarding which dealership to go to (Im in Pattaya though going to BKK is no problem) and what extras etc I should ask for?

Lastly, might sound a bit trivial but any opinions on the colour? I like the "Black Mica" but have been told that this is a bit difficult to keep clean / scratches very noticeable etc....

Thanks for any help.

Colour is for you, but I would never have black in LOS, plus it is supposed to be unlucky here huh.png .

I have the 4x4 and is great to have in the rainy season, plus l have got out of trouble with it a couple of times even though the 2WD does have an LSD axle whistling.gif .

From other folks view (Thai) the 4x4 is a top of the range ride in LOS even though it is a truck. Auto is a must for a very nice drive. smile.png

I had a 4X4 Vigo once and used the four wheel drive only twice. That was a waste of money and fuel. The 3.00cc is a thirsty beast. However, if you will be off-roading in the mountains, go for it.

Thanks for replies so far....

I had a drive in a Ranger (2010) model a few weeks back....they are a nice pickup but I didnt enjoy the drive nearly as much as the Toyota...I know there are new models out but I believe the waiting times are very long.....

I agree with the rainy season scenario regarding the 4x4 option but still cannot justify paying the extra for this....

Oh the dilemma!!crying.gif

How is it a waste of fuel when it is an on demand 4WD. If your talking about the extra weight then it is minuscule considering the high torque at low rpm of the 3.0.

If I had the cash I would still buy a 4x4 Vigo BUT wait for the new one coming along.

I had a drive in my friends Vigo 3.0 4wd and I am not impressed, noisy compared to my Ranger, extremely ugly skin colored (cream??) interior.

He admitted that my Ranger fells like a limousine in comparison.

The new Vigo, well it's Toyota and I bet they had a good look at the current new trucks on the market and will make a very good one that can compete with them.

No you don't need 4wd drive in Pattaya, 100K baht more and 100kg more as well, waste of money.

If you want you can have a go in my WT2.2 2wd, send me a PM.

I had thought about waiting for the new 2014 model (when is it expected out does anyone know?) however I do need a new pickup soon due to the imminent arrival of baby in a few months. Currently am renting but due to me, dare I say it, "settling down" (i.e. my partying days are over when all I needed was a baht bus to the bar), I would need a pickup quite soon and obviously renting is just wasting money long term.

Preferably I would buy a Fortuner but cannot in any shape or form justify, at the moment with the exchange rate, purchasing one of these. Also, 2nd hand Fortuners are still quite expensive (I know they are around the 8xx - 1mil+ mark) but obviously these are used with no warranty etc.

I bought the Vigo 4 door Sportivo 2.5 auto, decided against the 4X4 option and am well pleased - took it down to central Thailand two weeks ago and performance/handling was excellent, plus, 13 kilo's per litre.

I had looked at this as well (the 2.5 Sportivo), but having been driving the 3.0L Fortuner (rented!) I feel I would sacrifice some extra money for the extra "poke".....

The Sportivo does look excellent though, glad your enjoying it!

Have a look at the new pickups. The Vigo is a dinosaur! Look at the Isuzu, Chevrolet, Mazda and the Ford. I did that and bought the Mazda 4x4 3.2 R. I wanted the Ford but the 12 month waiting list put me off. It was delivered in 2 months. Both the Ford and the Mazda have more power, newer technology, better ride etc etc. Try all 4 i mentioned then make your choice.

I waited 8 month but was offered one after app.4 month but was overseas working so I had to say no thanks.

Love the truck.

Haven't looked lately but do the rides you quote have more ''usable'' low end torque, where it is needed in a truck, than the Toyota. I mean around the 1000+rpm mark or are you talking about when it is wound up. ?

Except the Isuzu engine is nine years old, this is the last year it will be deployed!

Did you Bang on about Transit Vans back in the World, its a Truck, nothing more, their all the same. w00t.gif

To a point you are correct. Folk talk about MORE power, total crap, look at the figures WHERE this extra power is, yeh, revving the nuts off the thing. AND, it seems I have the only quiet Vigo in LOS, must be worth a fortune. laugh.png

Yup, first one I've ever owned, had a CRV previously and before that a Toyota Supra back in the West, the Vigo handles and performs better than the CRV although the Supra has got it beat in a couple of areas whistling.gif although not in the area of luggage capacity. laugh.png

It's not without reason young Thai's ending up hitting a tree in a corner in their trucks, they think it's a racing car but they find out the hard way it isn't.

Well as long as people are happy with their trucks that's all that matters, I am very happy with mine.

Then the Pussy Whipped Guy looks in envy at a Georgeous Suzi Swift that doesnt Biong Boing all the way Home like a freakin Kangaroo.cheesy.gif

Unfortunately so far only people defending their choices, no real answers for the op.

@ the OP, looking at the prices you mention you're comparing 2 models with more differences than just the 4wd, the price difference is not big enough for that. Personally I'd not choose the 4wd, I had one and hardly ever used it, and I never noticed a 4wd will hold value better than another type, they all hold value very well.

So I'd much rather have the better equipped car over the 4wd.

Ahh the pop star is out and about again.

I had a Honda City 06 before I bought my truck but on 3 rides Pattaya- SiSaket-Pattaya I felt very "small" in it when driving among all the pick-up trucks and thought to myself, I better not get involved in an accident with one of those as I gonna loose.

Even in Pattaya we can have flash floods, now with my truck, noooo worries.

My son have 2 small electric cars, in the City I could just squeeze the small one in on the front passenger seat but I couldn't see anything to my left and I was cursing as hell because it was such a thigh fit, nooo problem now.

We also sometimes buy large plants for the garden, nooo problem.
