Good post; agree 100%.

The Breakfast Buffet is indicative of the quality of service and appointment of the rooms ... also the calibre of the owner "Ooh".

We now wait with baited breath for a "downer" from Khun Paul!!

Sorry... Been to that Hotel, it is in the heart of a stain upon Udon. There are so many restaurants outside UD Town area where (real Thai) food exists. My opinion, even for foreigner food, stay away from Udon's tiny RL District. The Foreigner food along that street is garbage and suspect in and out of each of the establishments.

Nope; you're wrong mate.

Firstly Soi Samapntamit can hardly be classed as a Red Light district just because there are a few girls shouting "Hello Sailor" as one walks past their respective bars.

Secondly; the food down that Soi in the Irish Clock, Nobis, and others can hardly be described as "garbage" .. and

Thirdly; the Pannarai owners have had the foresight to see that within 6 or seven years the whole Soi will be a vibrant extension of the Plaza area.

The "Cowshed" will hopefully be razed, the "Scotsman" bar being brought onto the main thoroughfare where it belongs, not tucked away in some darkened enclosure.

Steve's Sports Bar will be, as now, the hub/epicentre of all Sampantamit activity.

The hotel is perfectly located ... all it needs is a bridge over the Klong to avoid going through the Cowshed to get to the plaza.

Does the hotel serve real bacon?

I stayed in udon 5/6 years ago and the breakfast was ok, the orange juice was not real, just orange cordial and the bacon was hidden unless those in the know asked for it!!

5/6 years ago you could not have breakfast at the Pannarai Hotel simply because it did not exist yet. So you must have stayed in another hotel which served breakfast also.

..........Sorry but I disagree..........What Ive eaten at Seaside 2 in Soi Saphan is very good (except for the braised steak) -good portions -good price -Thai and Farang food.

I tried the buffet last week and it was terrible, tasteless very tough bacon, thai crap sausages, orange juice like knats pee, pineaple jiuce ok, bread all very sweet, croisants horrible cheap stale margarine ones and the coffee was well stewed, so in my opinion not to be repeated. Irish clock and the bookhouse do a good breakfast.

Each to their own MYK.. I had a combination of Thai Curry, rice, eggs and bacon. Rounded off with Coffee, croissants and jam set me up for the day. The choice was superb; Loved it; I'll go back.

Admittedly if you want a traditional, cooked-to-order breakfast then IC is the place to go, or Jon's bacon rolls at the Chern Chim.

Clearly your expectations/standards are far lower than mine and I will never go there again it was awfull!

We're talking about a 150 baht breakfast buffet at a Provincial hotel, not the Smorgasbord at Harrods. I must take this opportunity to apologise that, with my "low standards", I dared elevate myself contribute to the same thread as your good self. Yes; the advice to yourself is sound .. don't go back!!

Currently I am sitting at the breakfast buffet at the paneria as it was included in my room rate of 1450 baht from last night . The buffet itself looks OK but I will tell you that the hotel is so noisy from the bars next door that it is impossible to sleep . I thought at 1.30 it would stop when the bars closed , but no they got boom boxes and continued until 5am . Bring your earplugs if you plan On staying there

Bad luck NKD. I used to get that when sleeping in the Top Mansion. Surely it is only a matter of time before the Cowshed is pulled down!! I've found at the Pannarai that it is somewhat quieter if you ask for the south facing rooms

Always. Just booked a friend last month in for that price with his wife and daughter. Wife went to Aok Udon for a birth delivery. Room is ROH (Run of house). I book via Centara group in Bangkok. Agoda offers the rate of standard room for around 1335 Baht which is FIT rate. I book corporate.

Last month. Seven years ago I didn't even traveled to Udon. The rates now are only around Baht 1400 per night but I get a discount and book corporate.

its been around that rate recently on Agoda, must be struggling for trade, the price varies but has been down to that.
