The event was held at the Big C supermarket in Nakhon Pathom, with ten contestants in each of the two categories: the giant fresh water prawn and the crocodile meat eating competitions, which attracted a huge cheering audience. SOUTH CRISIS
Separatist bomb maker shot dead in Narathiwat

A man suspected of being separatist was killed on Tuesday during a raid and exchange of gunfire with security forces in Chanae district in the deep south province of Narathiwat.

The dead man was identified as Sukree Porheng, 30, a native of the district. A handgun was found near his body.

The raid, conducted under martial law, followed a tip off that a suspicious man was hiding at a house in Ailakor Nai village, which is at the foot of a hill. As the forces were approaching the house, Sukree allegedly opened fire. He then jumped from a window and ran into an orchard behind the house.

The firefight lasted about 10 minutes and when it ceased, the officers examined the scene and Sukree's body. Warrants were outstanding on Sukree for his alleged involvement in many attacks as a bomb maker.

Nuraiha Panoh, 21, owner of the house said Sukree was her husband and had just returned from Malaysia. She denied knowing that he was a bomb maker.

The forces also confiscated two assault rifles and ammunitions from a nearby site. The weapons were stolen from an army base in Rangae district in 2011. The robbery resulted in deaths of a captain and three soldiers.
