I haven't decided anything of the sort.Mind Reading is only for entertainment! I'd take your word for that, but the following sentence, among others, puts paid to your pledge of impartiality: And please let's not talk about human rights of the Alledged Sexual Criminal Why shouldn't we talk about the human rights of an accused, of an alleged criminal, sexual or otherwise, because taking away his human rights is already having found him guilty. I am more interested in the human rights of the Victim than the alleged Abuser, unlike the Liberal and PC Brigade. At the last count in my Country there were 53 organisations to help the Criminals in various ways, and only 3 to help the Victim. Needless to to say there's something serously wrong with the system. So, you don't care that the 'accused abused' could be a victim. How utterly odd . . . and your constant usage of 'liberal and PC brigade' does make you look quite ridiculous in this context

Surely as 'Humans', then Human rights should be automatically the privilege of an 'alleged accused' and an 'alleged victim' and those Human rights should be maintained at the highest level until such time a court makes a decision on removing the word alleged from in front of either word at which point if it is the accused, they then become guilty and at that point it is over to the national prison system. So which country are you in with only 3 organizations to help victims?
Khon Thai Ben Khon Dee
So what was the outcome and what has happened to Mr. Karl? Has he passed away? Was the case thrown out and if so what was the reason given? Edited February 18, 2014 by Khon Thai Ben Khon Dee
Water Buffalo
I would like to say how good it is to see this maturity, at least from some members. Words like evidence, fair and trial in one sentence is just wonderful. There is an element of questioning coming into the discussion, which is a first for me. Bear in mind at 90+ there is little he could have done to anyone. The only question for me is who informed the police. Of course they will be Thai. They will have a BiB relative. This will be about money, and the biggest likelihood is that a Thai woman will be after his money. The other likelihood is that the mother of the "victim" worked in a bar. It's a no-brainer,just look at the guy! Any 15 year old girl could snap his arms and legs off, this is the part of living in Thailand that really gets me,they always prey on the old and vunerable Farangs here, disgraceful! Proof? It is still very possible for him to have done it. And could a 7 year old snap his arm off? The article says between 7 and 15.

millwall_fan
Mr. Karl is a master at having his trial postponed. In reality the Thais just don't know how to deal with him. To my knowledge there's no allegation that he raped the girls and the locals just don't get the idea that sexual assault of minors short of rape is that serious. This guy for all his 93 years is pretty fit by all accounts. He escaped to Burma at one point and the Burmese authorities returned him to Thailand; everytime he is taken to court he claims some illness or another. i wholly agree that everyone has a right to a fair trial, but the authorities need to stop listening to his excuses and actually hold the trial. Difficult to see how they could punish him if fond guilty though...

If he's guilty throw away the key, quite simple really.Of course if he's innocent, well what a shocking way to spend your last years, months, weeks & days. Old Croc
Elderly Australian man accused of sex abuse dies in Thailand prison By South-East Asia correspondent Samantha Hawley Posted 17 minutes ago An elderly Australian man who allegedly raped four young sisters in Thailand has died in jail in Chiang Mai. Ninety-four-year-old Karl Joseph Kraus was arrested in 2010 in one of the worst cases of child sexual abuse ever uncovered in Thailand. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-02/elderly-australian-accused-of-sex-abuse-dies-in-thailand/5427894
i claudius
I certainly am not making light of this ,but i would not have thought a 90 year old was up to commiting rape.

animatic
Well he's gone, and not exactly a fun last few years. I doubt he got special treatment in the Chinagmai lock up. But this phrase seems purest hyperbole. " one of the worst cases of child sexual abuse ever uncovered in Thailand. " I have heard of much worse things happening here, than was ever mentioned in this old geezers case. But the whole thing is moot now, he never finished his trial and never exited his cell. If he hadn't done a runner to Myanmar he might have finished his days in a crap room somewhere, but he ended them in jail without a definitive conclusion to the charges. Maybe fair maybe not. But the alleged child porn on his computer may have been sufficiently damning alone. Then again we will never know if it was allegedly still illegal 19 year olds nor much younger. Sordid case no matter how you slice it. Ashes to ashes etc.
slipperylobster
I am just waiting for a TV expert to remember that he saw this guy jogging on Beach Rd. just before this picture was taken. I'm not a TV expert, but there's no Beach Road in Chiang Mai. and no pedophiles nor perverts..

GunterChiangMai
One look at him and his prophesy that he will be dead before the court rules seems hardly prophetic. The guy will spend the end of his days in hell and let's hope the court give the public it's conclusion even if the guy does expire, so that it is known if he would have been convicted or not. He is guilty? Hell comes before or after guilty? The people's court has spoken! Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

issanaus
All that needs to be said is that if you are accused of child abuse in Thailand don't count on your age or heath to get you free. I should have compassion for him but to be honest I don't and can not be bothered to try.
