Pope speaks against forced mass displacement of Gaza civilians
Cairo has voiced strong opposition to Israel's plan to establish a so-called "humanitarian city" on the ruins of Rafah in southern Gaza, warning it could trigger a mass exodus toward Egypt's border and further destabilize the region. In a phone call last week with the US Middle East Envoy Steven Witkoff, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty firmly rejected the proposal. Israel reportedly plans to put up a gated camp, dubbed the "humanitarian city", to host an initial 600,000 Palestinians displaced from northern Gaza. Crime Jealous Wife Shoots Husband Dead in Bed, Then Takes Own Life

A murder-suicide unfolded in the early hours of the morning after a jealous wife fatally shot her husband at their home in Bang Kruai, Nonthaburi, before driving to a nearby canal and taking her own life. At approximately 03:30 on 22 July, officers from Plai Bang Police Station and rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation responded to reports of a shooting at a high-end housing estate in the Bang Kruai district. Upon arrival, police discovered the body of 52-year-old Mr Chatrin, lying on his back on the bed with a gunshot wound to his right cheek. Initial investigations identified the shooter as his 28-year-old wife, Mrs Monrudee, who had fled the scene in a white car following the incident. Shortly after, authorities were alerted to an abandoned white car parked along the Maha Sawat canal. A pink handbag containing Monrudee’s work ID card was found nearby. A search was launched and her body was later found floating in the canal. She had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the temple. However, no firearm was found at the scene, prompting divers to search the canal for the missing weapon. Preliminary inquiries suggest that jealousy may have been the motive, as Monrudee had reportedly discovered her husband was romantically involved with another woman. The couple had argued frequently in recent weeks. It is believed she shot her husband in a fit of rage, fled the house, and then, overcome by guilt or despair, shot herself by the water’s edge. A cruise liner carrying Israeli tourists has been forced to reroute to Cyprus after being turned away from the Greek island of Syros after a quayside protest over the Gaza war. Around 1,600 Israeli passengers on board the Crown Iris were prevented from disembarking amid safety concerns when more than 300 demonstrators on the Cycladic isle made clear they were unwelcome over Israel’s conduct of the war and treatment of Palestinians in Gaza. A large banner emblazoned with the words Stop the Genocide was held aloft alongside Palestinian flags. A statement from the protesters also took issue with Greece’s increasingly close “economic, technological and military” relationship with Israel. “As residents of Syros but more so as human beings, we are taking action that we hope will contribute to stopping this destruction from the genocidal war that is taking place in our neighbourhood,” it said. Gaza has been at risk of famine for months- experts. Here's why they haven't declared one
GENEVA (Reuters) -The Norwegian Refugee Council told Reuters on Tuesday its aid stocks are completely depleted in Gaza, with some of its staff now starving, and accused Israel of paralysing its work. "Our last tent, our last food parcel, our last relief items have been distributed. There is nothing left," Jan Egeland, the secretary general of the council told Reuters in an interview via video link from Oslo. The council's comments echo those made earlier on Tuesday by the head of the Palestinian refugee agency, who said UNRWA's staff were fainting on the job from hunger and exhaustion. Gaza poses a major challenge for experts because Israel severely limits access to the territory, making it difficult and in some cases impossible to gather data. The leading international authority on food crises is the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, or IPC, first set up in 2004 during the famine in Somalia. It includes more than a dozen U.N. agencies, aid groups, governments and other bodies. While the IPC says it is the “primary mechanism” used by the international community to conclude whether a famine is happening or projected, it typically doesn’t make such a declaration itself.
