3G Service On Hadd Yuan On Koh Phangan?

Featured Replies

I currently have a True-H sim in my iphone that works great as a hotspot elsewhere in Thailand. I know things are changing by the day regarding 3G in the south, btu I'm wondering if True reaches the 3 bays now and if not does DTAC of something else reach that I can get before getting on the boat for Haad Yuan?

BTW , I know the bungalows/hotel rents wireless cards now (last I heard they were 2THB/min). I want to bring my own hotspot as I'll be there a couple weeks.

There's no 3G on Phangan as of yet (far as I know). AIS has AFAIK the best EDGE (2G) coverage... I've been able to connect everywhere and have covered pretty much all of KPG north of a Ban Tai - Than Sadet-line. I've been able to get a 2G connection on Bottle beach, Thong Nai Pan, Chaloklum and every other place I've tried (pretty much all of KPG north of that line). Unfortunately I rarely venture south of that line so I don't know if AIS would work on Had Yuan. I hear DTAC has good coverage on KPG but haven't tried it myself.

Of course, 2G is only good enough for e-mail and light browsing. AIS are supposed to roll out their 3G on Phangan this year but I'm not holding my breath...

I should drive down & visit H Yuan & H Thien to see if AIS works there... And to eat at Bamboo of course! tongue.png

There is definitely 3G coverage on KPG already.

I cant tell you about deep in the jungle, but whereever I went there a few weeks ago I had excellent 3G coverage with DTAC.

Also no problem on Koh Tao a few months ago, it worked well on DTAC with 3G, my girlfriend got AIS, she got only 2G over there.

Dont know about True, but DTAC seems ahead of AIS in terms of 3G on the islands, AIS also came to Samui much later than the others.

Thanks for this info. Anyone else have experience with DTAC 3G in Koh Phangan? I'll probably be staying in the north or west.

Most operators now have Phangan covered (3G) apart from some of the remoter areas on the Eastern side. I use AIS and have 3G in most places, a friend has DTAC and it seems to work at least as well as mine.

Dtac trinet happy SIM, it's good on kp, I got from the electronic market next to 7/11 thong sala. Can get a deal with 5 gb high speed data for 900 ish baht
