Activists are calling on Burma’s national human rights commission to investigate allegations of violence against women in Shan State amid an offensive by the government army, the Asian Correspondent news portal reported Wednesday. The Palaung Women’s Organization and the Ta’ang Students and Youth Organization have released a report highlighting rights abuses by government soldiers in Palaung areas during fighting this year against the Shan State Army-North, the Kachin Independence Army and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), including rape and mass displacement, as well as the abduction of girls to work as army porters.
