[Myanmar] Burma’S Gas Export Rose To $3.7 Bln Last Year

Featured Replies

The export of natural gas has earned Burma a US $3.7 billion last year, up from $3.5 billion the year before, Eleven Media reports. Government trade figures from the Ministry of Commerce show that gas export has risen sharply since President Thein Sein’s quasi-civilian government took over from the military regime in 2011. According to the figures, Burma received $2.5 billion in revenues from gas export in the fiscal year 2010-2011. Gas exports comprise 38 percent of Burma’s total export revenue, the Asian Development Bank said last month. Gas production is expected to double this year as the Shwe and Zawtika gas fields come online, the bank said.
