Night Fishing Can Be Hazardous To Health.

Featured Replies

A Thai friend of mine of over 8 years went out night fishing around the Five Islands with a couple of pals. The boat was small but had a light on to attract the squid, a large garr fish jumped out of the water attracted by the light and speared my friend through one of his eyes and into his brain. He died three days later and is cremated on Saturday. He leaves a wife and three sons.

My condolences to the family and I will miss him.

Wooow, this is something one doesn't expect to read when it is about fishing. Sorry about your friend.

Incredible misfortune! So sorry for your friend and his family.

R.I.P.

Condolences, how unfortunate & sad.

R.I.P to your friend

Sad story indeed... Condolences to the family

I have seen these fish around the west end of Maenam beach on occasion ...during the day, but not jumping out of water...

I was talking to a local, yesterday about this particular fish, it kills or harms many people apparently, it's attracted by the light .... (some news is not always reported! )

Avoid going out in (especially small boats) at night.... I doubt that many none locals would do that anyway.... so just a warning!
