Teddy R, on Hyphenated Americans

TR-07.jpg

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907 :o

Teddy's rolling over in his grave now. ¿Habla usted español? Si, el presidente.

Have you guys actually met, or is it just "internet" sex at this stage? :o

We haven't met, but real men don't do it with other men, however, someday, we might go whoring together.

I have recently met "Bob" in person, another great American patriot poster, and he is a wild man indeed! :o

I thought Boonie was married?

He is, but he is also a real man.

Sometimes one has to take a short vacation from marital vows. :o

Wish somebody would tell that to my wife... :D

/.../ and Mother Teresa were (are) great role models, but I don't think of them as Heroes (personally).

I wouldn't hold a sadistic warped old hag as a rolemodel, but each to his own. :o

The men and women of the Military, as well as Police Forces and Fire-Fighters would be a better choice for Heros.

People that are willing to put their own lives on the line to help others, those people are heroes.

Totally agree. Working every day to protect or help others even though it means a risk to their own health.

She spent a lifetime working in the slums of Calcutta helping people who many considered "untouchable". What's your contribution to society?

Oh yeah, you play football. :o

*sigh*

No, to be honest I'm to busy with work to have any time to play fotball lately, but thank you for caring about my personal life.

And if you didn't know, her 'caring' about the poor was putting them in large rooms, denieing them any real medical care, and proclaiming that 'only by having a hard time would they enter heaven'. That meant lieing in pain, on the worst bed (if any), and being miserable until dieing. Al her money went _elsewere_, not into her 'caring' for the poor. We was a evil con-woman, like so many other selfratios religions icons.

Heck, as a starter, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_Theresa#Controversy

What have you done for us cdnvic?

What have you done for us cdnvic?

Enough research (not just tabloid TV research) to know that many of those people would have died in the gutters had they not been put in those big rooms with uncomfortable beds. Telling someone who is suffering from something incurable that suffering can bring rewards in heaven is maybe a way to give someone with no hope something to hope for.

I'm a nobody, and I can accept it. I'm not so insecure as to have to compensate by annonymously slagging off someone who had the patience and benevolence to spend their life doing something I'd never have enough character to do myself.

cv

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you shouldn't have hero-worship. You get people who are so insecure about themselfs that they will start to attack anyone that dares to have an opposite view on the persons deeds.

cdnvic, please, do yourself a favour and atleast try to check out the link and a few of the links given on that page. Heck, who knows, it might broaden your view some.

How putting non-fataly sick together with fataly sick (since they didn't differentiate between them), failing to give proper medical care and in turn having your 'non fataly' sick have complications and dieing beeing a _good_ thing to do is beyond me.

Please let me know if you would accept her actions towards your loved ones.

Well, regardless of what one thinks of Mother Theresa (TAWP, Cdnvic!) back to the topic at hand.

I think a role model and a hero are different things all together.

A role model is someone that sets an example, who provides a model on how to live ones life.

A hero is someone who does something above and beyond the call of duty, at their own great personal risk (or loss of life) in order to help someone else.

I'll never forget the photo of the firefighter climbing up into the WTC as it was on fire, passing people on their way down. On his way to a most certain death but still doing so, to try and save lives. That is my idea of a hero.

Sorry, I just noticed that it was a political or sports hero. Well, with the criteria I outlined, then any sports person would most likely be out.

Political? Martin Luther King or Ghandi, both of whom put their lives on the line (and ultimately sacrificed them) in order to further beliefs that would help people.

Heres my hero :D

scampy3zi.jpg

I wish i had all the personalities he has :o:D

Anyway back on topic, i had 2 heroes when i was growing up...... one was my uncle craig. He was a colour sergeant in the Scots guards and i remember going to wave him off when he went to the faulklands(sp) and i couldnt of been prouder when i saw him get off the plane on the return journey

And of course my second hero, who is still my hero but dont tell him, is my dad. :D

Kick-Ball! :o

If it's an NFL football role model, a true honest-to-goodness role model for kids, then it's gotta be Sweetness, Walter Payton.

Football was played with the boys. Kick-ball was played when the girls wanted to play, too. :D

I am so sick od hearing that. I have a friend who has played both and I have played American football and those rugby guys do not hit nearly as hard. I have never heard of a rugby player getting whiplash from a hit. As a matter of a fact I have never seen a rugby player take a hit, they just grab on to each other. So, play the game and find out just how much in hurts. :D

Just saw a guy come off the field with a suspected broken sternum..just 1 hour ago! He was spitting up blood :D

If you think that rugby players just grab each other, it shows how very little rugby you watch. These guys hit hard.No padding.Had a few drinks with a profesional player that herniated a disc in his neck in a game a few years ago.He is lucky to be still standing....Does that count as whiplash? :o

Nothing heroic in this, I think. Especially since they are getting PAID to beat each other up. :D

:D Heros please, not who can bash someone up better than another!

My definition of a hero: Anyone that are willing to put their life at line for others without ever getting any thanks or fame.

Standing around and wanting thanks and applause after a good deed is the opposite of heroism.
