Thats because you were looking in the wrong places.
I've lived in Udon 5 years and like many here dont frequent the bars. For every drunk you see (probably visiting from Phuket) there are probably 100 like me ,family man, retired and content with life.

Dont judge us all by what you see in the likes of Day & Night or Nutty Park as most local expats dont drink at these places and they are after all in every city and are generally in the minority.

hope these type of posts keep coming and keep the crodws away, i just moved from Pattaya to here and the night life is great, Tawaan Dang, Yellow Bird and any place in Hi Tech area and you would have been dripping in very attractive young ladies and extremely friendly Thai guys. You came to Isaan to look for bar girls!!!

According to my Scottish friend Ian from the Scotsman was born 5 miles away from him!!! but maybe he is wrong on that one.

There is a daily flight direct to Udon from Phuket and i have a return for 2200 baht next month beats the bus.
Yes i bet the Italian did take you out to the airport for 120k very happily.
Did you happen to meet anybody from Laos whilst you were here?
Anyways nice post and hopefully will send out the don't come signs, if you wanted a stunning lady a bit of time in Central mall would have done the trick, drink drive laws are stickily enforced so not to many smashed out the head farangs about, and i have yet to see a guy walking around the city in a thong, but one never knows.

Did the under age girl have a sign around her neck with her Date of Birth on or was it an assumption, kind of contradicts the old haggered bit.
Nice one taking a knife through airport securityclap2.gif

Enjoy Phuketski

Another hotel worth a look is @Home a couple of doors down from Irish Clock. A couple of hundred baht more than Top Mansion but the difference in quality is massive and it's a newer hotel.

As for the nightlife, there is plenty of fun to be had away from Day & Night or Nutty Park.

Yes I would echo that @home very good but have found the price varies quite a lot.

I suppose OP being new to Udon just didn't know where to go, like anybody new to a town. I think Udon is great but let's keep it quiet from the Pattaya and Phuket brigade.

Exactly this.

I can't believe people are slagging it off when all they go on about is the row of bars in "day n night".

I spent 3 weeks there not so long ago and had a great time in the thai bars. Really good atmosphere.
