I wonder how much it would cost to get this car over here to Bangkok and if I decided to sell it would it bring a premium price. The original engine was rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago, and at that time I installed a mid range cam. It sounds bossy and is full of torque.

Yes it will fetch a premium price in Bangkok but that will be a lot less than you paid to get it here.

If its a left hooker, don't bother.

Look up the classic car websites - there are some stringrays on there (all left hookers).

Taxes are also less for older / classic imports. I'm not sure if that makes it worth while though...

All the information is out there: Customs webpage, classic car webpages.

Hopefully someone can come back to you with some personal experience of importing a classic car.

Why? It may be the correct driving side in a few years anyway?

The Thai government is proposing a new law that would change driver-side direction from the left side of the road to the right. The Department of Public Roads said the proposal will go to parliament in June, and if passed, will take effect in the beginning of January 2014.

True. Saw their comment at the bottom saying where they pulled it from after a confused member's comment.

Could you imagine how many head on collisions there would be if they changed lanes and what about all the "old" cars with right hand steering? Utterly chaos.

That said, the old Corvette is very cool.

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I've drive with the steering wheel on the wrong side in Oz. Can't say I enjoyed it!

OP.

What's it worth at home?

What would you think its value would be in Thailand.

Bearing in mind it is an old gas guzzler.

I can see that, I wouldn't like driving on the wrong side like they do in Oz either giggle.gif ..

I have had the car for nearly 30 years and in the USA it would bring around a million baht since it is low miles (54,000), rebuilt engine and the sought after big block. Not sure of the value here or the demand and that is why I posted. But after all the trouble and expense of getting it here, to make it worth while I would need nearly 2 million. You are right it is a gas guzzler, but it is not your everyday driving car. This is a performance car with a very stiff suspension, one of the last true American muscle cars. No emission stuff on this bad boy. tongue.png I kind of doubt it would bring that price here so maybe I will consider selling it back home.

Where is it in the states? I could take really good care of it for you..First class all the way biggrin.png ..

Begs the question how many more april fools articles are posted on that law forum, that are taken for granted by their readers.

The ride, all original with matching numbers will increase in value in farang land and is probably worth a nice amount now with the factory 454. thumbsup.gif

Impossible to import a 2nd hand car at the moment I'm told. If you find a way, please do share with us as I have an M5 BMW languishing in Singapore and now live here in Thailand and can't drive it.

Probably better to sell it to Europe , maybe France. Apparently they can't get enough left hooker classics with people storing their money in classic cars during the bad economy.
