44 Million Baht Lottery Wins for two Pattaya Monk’s

monk-2.jpg

PATTAYA: -- A Monk residing at a South Pattaya Temple won 38 Million Baht on the Thai National Lottery on Sunday. Another Monk at the same Temple, who was ordained on Sunday won 6 Million Baht.

The Monks reside at the Tamsamakee Temple in South Pattaya and because of the large win, the monk who won the 38 Million Baht has disappeared and attempts at contacting him have been unsuccessful. The other Monks at the Temple are thought to know his location but are keeping quiet for now.

Pra Kajonwat purchased his lottery tickets the day before he was ordained as a monk on 15th June. On 16th June he was ordained and also found out about his lottery win.

As soon as he leaves the Monkhood he intends to give money to his Mother so she can build a new house and he will also donate some of the money to local orphanages.

Lotto Winner Monk Says He Wants To Meet His American Dad

PATTAYA: -- Reports emerged that 2 monks in Pattaya separately won a total sum of 44 million baht in lottery payout.

Phra (monk) Kajornwat, 23, won 6 million baht while the other 38 million baht went to another monk who did not want to be identified by name. Both monks reside at Dharmsamakkee Temple in Banglamung district. The winning number was 289673.

Phra Kajornwat told reporters that he has been ordained since 16 June. Before his ordination, he helped his 50 year old mother Ms. Nadda Wiparattanakorn run their small ′steak′ diner called ′Beau Steak′ in South Pattaya. The diner was named after his nickname, Beau.

The young monk said he decided to be ordained for 15 days (brief monkhood is very common in Thailand) because he wanted to make good karma for his mother as token of his filial gratitude. Previously, he registered for the military service but did not make the cut.

As for the winning lottery, Phra Kajornwat told reporters that he bought the lotto in the temple just a day before his ordination. He said he was helping the monks in their daily chores at the time. He recalled that another monk also bought many pairs of lottery which bore the same number.

He said he already deposited the prize money in his bank account. The monk told reporters that he would use the money to pay his mother′s debt and buy a house for his mother so she won′t have to rent the house anymore.

Disrobe them quickly, they broke the vinaya, or they spend all this money for Buddhist work in the Wat

I am sure the Temple will be most grateful for the contribution

So he has gone into hiding but we will show his picture anyway so we know what he looks like. I am surprised that the whole family details wasn't put to print just to make sure that he is safe in hiding. Thailand what more can you say.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifwai.gif

In the first photo there's a gekko on the wall. What I want to know is....who was the gekko in his previous life?

What more can you say

That you must be the brightest light at home, when all others are switched off obvious, because I see mention of 2 ( two ) monk winners in the OP but see only a picture of 1.

lucky them....sad.png

That's probably the last thing on their minds and why should they give all their money to the Wat?

Good luck to them.

The 'Greengrocer's Apostrophe' is not uncommon on these pages. or should that be page's.

Let's have some consistency; eg.

One of the fundamental principles of being part of the Buddhist monkhood is not to seek personal wealth and possessions, but what else is one seeking to achieve when buying a lottery ticket....? This once again shows how the Buddhist principles in Thai religion are so distorted, having become a mere shadow of their intended manifestation.

Does anyone else find it REALLY REALLY ODD that 2 monks from the SAME TEMPLE won?

It's like 2 people winning big in the same apartment building. The odds are ASTRONOMICAL!

Something here smells kinda fishy.

Not odd at all, highly likely in fact. The ticket seller would have had a batch of 20 tickets with the same number, sometimes people buy the whole lot, sometimes books of 10 or 6, sometimes 1 or 2 tickets, whatever the buyer can afford. Quite simple and definitely not fishy.

Gonna be a popular temple from now on.

+1

Not quite - if purchased before becoming Novices (Not Monks), then they may use the money whenever they leave. If they were truly 'Monks' (Not Novices) then you would be correct and they must be punished or all fund belong to the temple.

As you noted, it is forbidden for a Monk or Novice to handle money - or cell phones, or computers, or TVs, or smoke cigarettes or chew Mak or any other worldly transgressions.

Pathetic. Truly pathetic. 44 million more indelible, smelly man-stains on this religion.

Yes, good luck for them, if they disrobe.

I wish that at least news articles would spell correctly, especially in the title.

the use of apostrophe+s as a mark for plural needs to be eradicated.

What a crock. This is the most obvious money laundering scam I have heard of for a long time.

what exactly are you on about? where does it show the second monk's picture?
