Heading for the American consulate, and will be spending a few days in CM proper, say within the wall, or walking distance thereof. We have no use for amenities, only need the room for sleep and shower. So, if it's clean and quiet, all is well.

What's the cheapest place you know of?

A homestay would be excellent.
