BANGKOK, June 22 – Leading travel website TripAdvisor has voted Bangkok as the top choice destination for travellers to Asia and the Pacific.

Tridao Aphaiwong, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration spokeswoman, said the Traveller’s Choice Destination award was presented to the Thai ambassador to Singapore, Marut Chitrpatima, on Tuesday.

The announcement was made after five years of surveys among travellers worldwide through its website: www.tripadvisor.com. Tokyo, Japan and Beijing, China were the second the third choice destinations respectively.

Ms Tridao said Bangkok was earlier awarded the World’s Best City by Travel & Leisure magazine and World’s Top Travel Hotspot by MasterCard.

The BMA will announce the award in a press conference early next month.

Founded in 2000, TripAdvisor is a leading website that assist customers in gathering travel information, with users posting reviews and opinions on travel-related content. (MCOT online news)

Love Bangkok and have condo there to supplement living in Isaan. As a tourist destination and setting aside the obvious male attractions attaching to the city I always thought it was beaten hands down by Hong Kong.

Beijing? They must be joking. On a par with Singapore as second tier - no where near as good as HK, Bangkok and Tokyo IMO.

It would mean something IF Tripadvisor had any credibility. Unfortunately it doesn't, so it doesn't.

tripadvisor recent search for a pattaya hotel

the scores where from awfull to ok

so what to trust

if you know there is a whole army regiment that does nothing than to put a PR stunt posting on the internet

i am sure people with business interest might spend some bucks on putting on a positive PR campaing for themselves and posting negatively for their competitors

Could be top destination because of location, location, location. This is one area where Thailand actually is a hub, at the center of other places to go. But category of best, well, that is a different subject.

Went from no rating to #1 at their strategic partner's site - Tripadvisor - I believe it. 55555555555555

On the plus side: Cheap lifestyle, great weather, beautiful women, idyllic islands, nightlife, great food.

On the negative side: Corruption, horrid traffic, scams, civil unrest.

Yeah, the good outweighs the bad.

That's only for Asia. Tripadvisor had a survey for too 10 destinations in the world, and no Asian city made the list...

Everybody knows how these sides work, be it tripadvisor or holidaycheck or...or...or.

They may be helpful if you take all the advice with a truckload of salt, but they are not trustworthy AT ALL!

The award is for Bangkok - not Pattaya. What was your search criteria? Are you a 'cheap Charlie tongue.png

A whole Army regiment spening all its time posting positive PR on the internet - yeah right. Maybe a few more regiments and the Navy will join soon too. Maybe you need to get out more - try Bangkok, it's a great destination!
