I cannot use multivitamins. What selection of vitamins should I buy instead.

As others have said, the quality of multivitamins is dubious at best, a lot of the vitamins and minerals cannot be absorbed by your body and are just pissed away.

1 avocado, 200g broccoli, 200g spinach, 1 apple, 1 banana will hit most of your vitamin and mineral needs, for only 700 calories . Also add fishoil capsules for healthy fats.

I recommend nutritiondata.self.com

Sounds good smile.png but the vitamin/mineral Mafia will attempt to shout you down !

The Mafia are the "experts" !

Well, I am a very pragmatic person and have never used vitamins in the past. So I will just conduct an experiment on myself. Tomorrow I am going to purchase the list of vitamins suggested by Sheryl above in her post:

B complex

D

Zinc

Fishoil

I will post the brand names here and the cost.

I will also give a week to week update on my overall health.

I have nothing to lose other than a few dollars.

I, of course,. wish you well in the choice you are making.

You may have a problem in sourcing "B" complex, "D" and Zinc isolated from Vit. "C "

I will be interested to read your updates smile.png

Phronesis,

Any good these may do will take much more than a wek to be evident. Basically your body needs to replenish lost red blood cells and while folate etc will be helpful in that it is not magic and the process of replacing lost RBCs is one that takes many weeks.

As I said before, I suggest you discuss with your doctor how you are feeling and whether Epo would be helpful in getting your blood count back up more quickly.

And, if your serum ferritin is edging up (or else later when it does) I would ask him/her about the possibility of perhaps alternating phlebotomies with chelation given that you have had problems with anemia using phlebotomy alone.

Thanks Sheryl for your valuable input. Your advice regarding the time frame for improvement is noted. I am off to supercheap right now to purchase my vitamins. It will be interesting to see what what they have in stock, and whether purchasing without vit c is possible. I also read online that sometimes the B complex manufacturers try to rip you off by putting lots of the Bs in that are cheap to manufacture while skimping on the Bs that are more costly to make.

The other issue I might bump into is when the bottles only have content descriptions in Thai. I speak pretty good Thai, but my reading and writing skills are not to the level to read drug labels...sad.png

My understanding is that B6 and B12 are the most beneficial regarding improving RBC. Is that correct?

I will post my purchases and pricing and provide updates on my condition.

Kind Regards

Allright. I have just got back from Supercheap. They have a great range of vitamins. After reading lots and lots of labels and checking prices in the scanner I have purchased the following in line with Sheryl's advice:

Sambee (multi B)

The Medicpharma Co. Thailand

Vit B1 100mg

Vit B6 5mg

Vit B12 65mg

Large white tub with orange top containing 1000 tablets.

Price 285THB

ZincTab

T.Man Pharma Co. Thailand

Zinc Gluconate (Anhydrous) 15mg

Very well (over) packaged in green and white outer box with small plastic tub inside 100 tablets

Price 125THB

Fish Oil

Mega Thailand

Fish Oil 1000mg providing:

EPA 180mg

DHA 120mg

Vit E 1.4mg

mid sized white plastic bottle with light blue label containing 100 capsules

Price 300THB

I did not buy vit D in line with Sheryl's suggestion as I am at the beach most days and would be rather shocked if I am not getting my daily dose.

I have just had lunch...a yummy club sandwich with fries...and have downed my first lots of supplements.

I will keep you posted on my health and vitality.

Thanks everyone for their input so far.
