Edge

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

Have anybody tried using EDGE via travelling

and what provider is good here ?

are there any devices like PCMCI or flash to use?

Assuming by "travelling" you mean around Thailand and not from abroad, DTAC generally has the best coverage outside Bankgok.

Hutch uses CDMA-2000, so it won't work with a GSM phone. Hutch hasn't updated their language stating "coverage of 25 central provinces" anywhere in at least four months, but I have seen some CAT CDMA cell towers around.

Does anybody use Hutch outside of the "central 25 provinces?"

EDGE is available only in Central Bangkok. You can find the map somewhere on dtac's website.

They might only publicize Central Bangkok, but I was getting Edge in places on Samui last week with DTAC, although it is very spotty.

That's useful information. Could you comment as to on which parts of Samui you were able to obtain an Edge connectiion and about whether it was noticably faster than GPRS?

so, in Pattaya there are no edge providers at all?

There's absolutely no DTAC EDGE in Nakhorn Si Thamarrat (if you're ever interested in going there for any reason what so ever). Absolutely rubbish GPRS connectivity.
