Gunmen shoot up house of 'Post Today' editor
The Sunday Nation

NONTHABURI: -- Unknown perpetrators opened fire on the house of "Post Today" newspaper executive editor Pattara Khampitak in Nonthaburi's Muang district, early yesterday morning.

There were no casualties.

Police believe the assault was either due to a personal conflict, or Pattara's work as a journalist.

Officers rushed to the 300-square wah property in Tambon Tha Sai containing three houses, to find the garage door of the first house peppered with bullet holes. The gunfire had shattered the rear windshield of a car parked inside. A dud VC10 grenade was also left hanging on the gate - possibly as a threat.

Pattara told police he and his family had no conflict with anyone and said he believed the assault stemmed from discontent among some groups over his work as a journalist.

Thai Journalists Association president Pradit Ruangdit, who visited Pattara yesterday after the incident, said that he believed the attack was a threat against the Thai media. He said the TJA would issue a statement condemning the attack and call for police to find the perpetrators.

I guess it has just become all to much for some Thai Visa members and the poor reporting in the last article was what tipped them over the edge.

Maybe this is a crackdown on negative comments about the government, the government dogs have been busy in the last week rounding up naysayers.

I've seen two articles on this and although his function as journalist and editor is highlighted there's no suggestion what political line, if any, his paper follows. I'm guessing they criticise the government.

Reality is critical to the government. Bias would be necessary not to make them look bad.

Ah we see yet again ''The freedom of the press'' here in Thailand.

Editorials are edited (censored) with ordinance and not human editors. Upset someone and you're visited by the censors,No blue pencil just ordinance to keep your opinions in the right place i.e locked in your mind never to be expressed.

Indeed the hallmark actions of a repressive society politically, criminal or business wise whose political hue, criminal interests or business interests at this moment in time remain hidden from public view.

Methinks the cauldron of discontent is still simmering on the fire of civil disorder.

When it gets to the point that people are scared into silence, you know that it is inevitable that the pressure pot is coming to a boil.

It will go pop eventually.

" A dud VC10 grenade was also left hanging on the gate - possibly as a threat."

There are reports circulating that in fact it was a medical call.

Seems as if one of the members in the household was suffering from constipation and the dummy grenade along with the bang bang prescription was the intended cure.

Reports as yet unconfirmed state that the cure was successful and the patient has been relieved.

red shirts having a practice run on someone that has been bagging the govt/ptp/red shirts. Maybe they should try to find some useable bullets and see if they can match them to other killings(bangkok murders).

Sure sign that people in high places are beginning to fear the truth.....and know only one way to try and silence critics. Obvious the high and mighty in this country are being ruffled and they don't like it one bit. They'd better get used to it as the more educated generations begin to have a lasting impact over the next few years. Many young Thai's are far from as dumb as they seem.

Well it's not the yellow shirts because their kids are studying their Phd's in coups over in Egypt. They will back when they graduate to unleash their fury on society.

Then again it could be a disgruntled advertiser that got no leads from his ad.

If that's the case they sure do have a big job ahead of them. The redshirts that is, as there are a lot of people bagging them and the PTP.

Wow the crackdown on freedom of speech is escalating rapidly. :-( Guess someone decided that threatening libel lawsuits

against government critics is too slow , bullets speed up fear much faster... May be time for me to come up with an exit plan.

I refuse to live in third world banana republic with free speech stifled ....

Whatever they do, do not call the police! whistling.gif

With similar lightening speed to that demonstarted by their efforts in solving the Ekayuth case, the police have altready determined that it was not political.

They're sharp these boys!!!
