Japanese Man 'Drugged And Robbed' In Pathumthani

13768097681376809806l.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A Japanese man was found unconscious at a bus stop in Pathumthani province early this morning.

Rescue workers who responded to the call detailed the identity of the man as Mr. Yamamoto Keichi, a tourist from Kyoto, Japan. He is currently admitted to St. Carlos Hospital.

A passport and a mobile phone were found on him when the rescue workers arrived at the scene, reports say. Doctors at the hospital said he had been drugged, his money stolen, before the suspects left him at the bus stop. Due to his condition, he could not yet give details to police about what had exactly happened.

Our correspondent added that another foreign tourist was found at the same road in Pathumthani after he was drugged and robbed late last year.

I think Thailand lost it's way long ago, but this type of crime against tourists it is not confined to Thailand, it happens the world over, every place has the dark side , the PTP has one , no where is safe ,the bulS!!t that happens in Bali, Indo, is something embassies have to handle daily.coffee1.gif

I presume, having been robbed and drugged, he will not be able to pay for his hospital trreatment? Is this an example of where Thais think that they should be able to now make a load of profit from his misfortune? Rather than shame and disgust as the behaviour of their fellow Thai citizens they probably just regard what happned as his fault for being in Thailand and will now expect a nice fat payout, must be rubbing their filthy little hands in glee.

I am sure they are already lining up a pesky Cambodian or Burmese to blame for this.

My sympathies to Mr Yamamoto and hope he has a speedy recovery.

Does anyone know anything about testing for whatever drug he might have been given? He's still pretty groggy by the looks of things, so I wonder if traces of the drug can still be detected? Seems like this information is difficult to come by or the cops don't care. Just curious.

Aren't you being a tad harsh on the Thai hospitals here? . Edited by Bluespunk

Although there seems to be no mention of exactly where he was attacked, he may just have been staying at the Manhattan Hotel, soi 14, Klong Luang area, which is popular with Japanese businessmen from the Navanakorn Industrial Estate nearby. There are numerous karaoke bars/massage shops on the soi near the hotel.

Another incident involving a foreigner was reported here almost exactly 5 months ago.

Certainly not on the tourist circuit.

Best wishes for the poor guy's recovery. And I'm sure he's being taken care of.

Future statement from TAT: "We have conducted a full investigation on the matter and found many findings. First, this is completely Khun Keichi's fault. If he had never come to Thailand, this would have never happened. Second, Khun Keichi was seen leaving in the company of 2 well known ladyboys and was over heard speaking very dirty to them both. Bartender said Khun Keichi had cosumed 7 bottles of Sangsom and was seen buying unknown pills from a well known drug dealer. In his possession, we found 50 Viagra pills, several sex toys, pornographic material, and underage child porn. It is our conclusion that Khun Keichi was not drugged, but most likely died of an overdose from illegal narcotics and sex drugs. This, in no way had anything to do with any Thai person doing anything bad to a tourist, not in anyway, ever. This man arrived to Thailand so feed his sex starved body and perverted mind. No further investigations needed. On a lighter note, nobody drowned in Phuket today, so things are getting better."

How the heck did you form that lowly opinion of the Thai hospital system ? Is it based on the way you were treated at some time, or was it the result of a nightmare you once had ?

I have nothing but praise and admiration for the treatment and service myself, my family and many friends have received in Thai hospitals.

Perhaps you were treated the way you deserved to be treated. clap2.gif

The nationality of the offender, criminal or con artist is irrelevant as is the nationality of the victim. If the crime is committed within Thailand it is the responsibility of Thai lawmakers and their crime prevention and law enforcement institutions that have dominion over the malfeasance of the perpetrators and the safety of their victims.

I have often thought that victims of crime, when on holiday in Thailand, should be able to sue the Tourist Authority of Thailand for their misleading (almost farcical) portrayal of the pleasures and risks of holidaying in Thailand.

This article did not give me enough information. I wanted to know his age, where he was staying. He looks young and I think young people go places with other young people. Where are his friends? I am always suspicious when I hear that someone was drugged. What kind of drug? How was it given? Was he also drunk? . . .

Let me see...... a mobile phone and his passport was found on him. The expression is....'Never judge a book by its cover' . IF this was in fact a robbery then why not take the phone---sell it--- and also the passport which to the right people a valid passport can be worth $$$. Also the article states he was left at a bus stop---- which indicates that his supposed robbers were nice enough to leave him where he would be found. Does this sound like Thailand to you??? Too many holes in this limited story........

"Doctors at the hospital said he had been drugged, his money stolen, before the suspects left him at the bus stop"

Please note that it is the doctors that have determined what happened to the victim, not the police. Unless the doctors are cross-trained at crime prevention, have CCTV coverage to back up the allegations or have eye witnesses at the scene, I think this is pretty much second party guesswork at this stage of the game.

How can they tell it was more than one "suspect", bruise marks on the ankles and under the arms?

EDIT: As much as I do have respect for the medical services here in Thailand, there are apparently times when they stray from their scope of expertise...................wink.png
