Oh...it seems I am misinformed about 7 Eleven franchises in Thailand. I was told by a Thai friend who runs a restaurant here in Melbourne that if he works for 7-11 he may have a better chance of getting a visa. All I can say he would have a better chance than someone who worked in the bar, club scene as a sex massage worker I guess. At least he has a legitimate job that has some respect in the eyes of the department of immigration. (My ex bf worked in a bar at soi 4 Silom - no chance of a Aus visa here...)This is regardless of 7-11 employing anyone off the street. And might I say I have met the staff of the 7-11 he works for and they are fantastic, intelligent, friendly and very nice people overall including his boss But then again don't take any notice of my judgement.

Right now you've probably got about as much chance of getting a de-facto visa as Melbourne have of winning the AFL next year...

A de-facto visa isn't granted as a "let's see how it goes visa" - it's a full on visa that requires time, money and effort on all counts...

Do you speak thai? How do you communicate with him on e-mail or text messaging/chat? Where and how did you meet him? You mentioned that his sister is also married to farang? What does she do, where did she meet him? These are all questions he will have to answer at the embassy if you sponsor him. Your ex-boyfriend was a massage boy from Silom Soi 4, and you mentioned that you have been coming here since many years for thai boys. Good luck Sir.

My ex by was not a massage boy or money boy. I did not say that. I said he worked in a bar restaurant in soi 4. There is a difference. He was my first bf in Thailand but becuase of his job it was too easy for him to meet others and even though I believe he was well behaved I couldn't be sure. He was just a very different person to my current boyfriend. Anyway that relationship is irrelevant.

So folks it seems from what everyone is saying it's impossible for him to come to my country and I'm wasting my time.

It is quite sad. I still think he is THE one for me and I am the one for him... we do share a strong love for each other. I do not want to let him go. He's been part of my life for 7 months now. After 3 trips to Bangkok we still feel the same. The age difference bothers some so it seems. If he was 25, 26, 28, 30 or 40 I would still love him the same as he does me.

I do realize the partner visa for Australia is a huge and complex and serious issue. So I may as well sell my house, give up everything in this country and retire to Thailand. This seems to be the way to go. Its a shame as I could provide him with a good life here. At this point I'm "lost in love" and not sure what the future holds for both of us. Thank you for your comments, but I'm not giving up on this guy!

The sisters information can be easily provided. She is fluent in English and will help her brothers case. I can answer all questions about meeting him and we communicate by chat messages and internet phone calls. All chats are saved in my computer as well ad photos.

I don't know what to think or say any more...just thank you everyone for your advice. You all know a lot more about these things than I do. I will just continue to travel to BKK every few months to be with him...until such time that I can indeed leave Australia. I won't miss it!

Congratulations, and well done for perservering.

You have now cleared the first hurdle on a long event.

Now you can build a nice history together with hopefully a few more trips to Australia

Your case is one where using an agent was definately worthwile.

Posted

Yes.. the agent who is Thai and works in Australia with a rep in Thailand is ideal. She is clever and knows all the necessary requirements that most people have no idea about!

I've done 5 visas myself so the op must be talking about everyone else?

Good luck to the OP, but let's not forget that the initial

question was 3 months ago.

To me it sounded like it was standard tourist visa application.

The OP was better off using an agent as he said he was

struggling with the paper work. That's when agents are valuable.

OP, you were advised a tourist visa was the way to go but the majority

of concerns were that you had only met your boyfriend in person in June.

Seeing as your question was early September, that was only 3 months

so they were valid concerns.

Visa has now been issued approx 3 months later. That is a huge

difference. DIAC often use 6 months as a general indicator.

I can assure you that your agent did perform any magic.

That is a huge difference when applying for a visa when

you've only met the person for 3 months.

Purely speculation, but I am thinking the visa agency provided OP guidance on how to "misinform" DIAC. He needs to know it is likely his BF will be questioned by Immigration at the entry point, better have his story in alignment.

She won't be back likely. Can't really blame her.

I think you will find the OP is a guy, asking about his Thai partner.

OOps sorry, i didnt see that it was old. Someone must have recently bumped it.

When i read it, tbh, my first instinct was to think the OP was meaning he is a woman, and so i thought it must be a wind-up.

I just couldnt get my head around the idea that a woman would be quite so um...well..yeh, delusional.

I think in general women are a bit more wise to impracticalities etc..because we have to be, we are wired to be. Self-preservation maybe.

Then when i realised it was a guy that wrote it...it seemed a bit less like a wind-up and more like just another silly old fool.

Yes, thats harsh, i realise, and call me on it if im wrong. But i see tons of full of silly old fool threads (and some silly young ones too).

They might be happy old fools though! ..and thats good. But yes, still pretty silly...and i do think the OP is delusional (big age gap, lack of communication, the fact he thinks the "boy" really does want an older man because its quite normal for young people to like old partners here, and ..well everything really..)

She helped me with finding addresses that matched. ..my friends workplace address and his room address in which wr had several letters that didnt match. Her agent in BKK did the boyfriends part if the requirements. ..family proof, job etc..liason with boss...The agent was good at editing letters that are needed so they were totally relevant.

For those asking about the original application. ..I decided not to do it...too complex...I just gave up. .

Hey Lara...what are you on about?? The guy does care for me and he loves me. He also wants me to support him financially and offer him another life outside of Thailand. This is the reality...normal thing for Thai farang relationship. . Its both. Yes... Both. ...The love is certainly there...im old but not stupid. the age gap is an ussue as is the language barrier. Its difficult. And yes it seems he DOES like "older" partners. .

If sponsoring someone to live in Australia as your partner, as opposed to a short term tourist visa, it is not normal to provide ongoing financial support, they are expected to contribute as in any mutually supportive & respectful relationship. My Thai female partner gained full time employment within one month of arriving in Oz even with limited English skills and was never unemployed during her 15 years of living with me in Oz.

Got to say I concur with Lara...

Congratulations but I'm not sure what you're looking for here?

So how are things working out now that your boyfriend is in Australia with you?

Any photos for the scrap book?

That's pretty good.

The best I have done with a visa for Oz for my Thai partner has been 7 business days (or it might have been 5, can't really remember) but it is normally at least 10 business days.

However, once you get the first one and the Thai national complies with the conditions, it gets easier for the the subsequent ones.

I have never really understood why people get all bent out of shape about relationships that don't conform to their "norm".
