I think the motivation is to let other TV members that post in TD know that they are excluded from an 'elitist' forum that they haven't been invited to.

Is there a chance that because so many of underground members have signed up over there many of us would be using same passwords to our nicks as we use on here. Surely DD could check out our passwords in his forum databse and then use it to sign into TV at anytime using whatever convenient nickname at the time?

It seems a simple enough plan to me, and the most obvious way in and I assume if he has access to all of the TD database then our passwords could be retrieved from there quite easily couldn't they?

Is the BB software that badly written that admins can actually read user's passwords? Now that would be truly desperate and the authors need flogging

A more likely scenario is that DD is a member of the underground here. What we know is that he's English and hangs out in the Pattaya area. I can think of a couple of underground members who match that description.

I am an Admin on another Board that uses exactly the same software as Thaivisa.com. It isn't possible for me to see passwords as they are stored in the Database encrypted. There is also some weird algorythm applied to them as well.

With that in Mind, that is only for this board and others using this Software.

Other Software I know as a fact you can see the passwords, Whatever they use at <URL Automatically Removed>, I am not sure, but the stuff that comes free with web-hosting packages the Admin can view and change passwords.

So in summary, here your passwords are private, other places there is no guarentee

Had a quick look through the vBulletin Docs, but they mention nothing about how passwords are encoded into the DB.

Just tested that "Forgot my password" function on the forum - the password emailed to me was not my original password, rather a random generated password, suggesting that all user passwords are hashed (and cannot be easily unhashed) before storing into the DB.

There are services offering decoding of supposedly unhashable algorithms such as SHA-1 and MD5, depending on the complexity of the originally hashed string, so it is possible this is the technique they've been using. If concerned, best to play it safe and change your password (on TV) anyhow.

I reckon BKK Madness is spot on the money! If you're registered on TD then change your password!
