GENEVA, Sept 10 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has reiterated Thailand’s adherence to the principles of human rights and freedom of the people with respect to the voice of the minority.

In her speech at the 24th meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council here yesterday, she said democracy was not only about an election victory by the majority but about exercising power while honouring the minority.

People in power must neither hold on to power nor indoctrinate others, she said.

She said her government has followed international standard on equality and giving opportunities to women, children and the disabled, and cooperated regionally to promote human rights given challenges in the region.

Thailand has experienced challenges in its fight for democracy in the last several decades and the path remains rocky, she said.

Ms Yingluck added that she had to personally protect democracy from non-democratic people, bearing in mind that democracy, human rights, justice system and rules of law were universal values that bind people and different nations together.

The Thai prime minister arrived in Switzerland on the first leg of her one-week European tour which also includes Italy, the Vatican City and Montenegro. (MCOT online news)

PM: Kofi Annan to join next unity forum in Bangkok

GENEVA, 10 September 2013 (NNT) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has confirmed that former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan will join the next round of the Thai government-initiated unity forum.

Speaking after her meeting with Mr. Annan on the sidelines of the United Nations Human Rights Council conference in Geneva, Ms Yingluck said she discussed with Mr Annan the Thai government’s reconciliation efforts and its success in holding a series of forum entitled “Uniting for the Future: Learning from each other’s experience.”

Ms Yingluck said Mr Annan has affirmed his participation after he was unable to make it last time due to prior engagements. The September 2 forum in Bangkok was joined by former British prime minister Tony Blair.

Prime Minister Yingluck earlier addressed the council in Geneva, saying she has had to defend the Kingdom’s democracy from undemocratic minds and that Thailand continues to support democratic values by protecting people's rights and liberty.

Sam Rainsy Is not on the Thaksin Shinawatra approved list. He is trying to unseat a dictator who is a personal friend of Thaksin's.

Any one against dictatorship is on Thaksin's hit list. Being a dictator is some thing Thaksin greatly aspires to.

Thailand is over run with drugs and there was no drug lords killed or even prosecuted.

Out of the 2,500 killed 1,500 were shone to be innocent.

Thou shalt not stifle debate by not giving the opposition a chance to debate

Thou shalt not abuse democracy by using the police to remove the opposition during a debate

Thou shalt not stifle protest by using police to assault protesters

Thou shalt not favour the regions that support you above those that don't

Thou shalt not permit the free reign of prostitution whilst promoting the rights of women

Thou shalt not permit wife beaters to be members of your political party whilst promoting the rights of women

Thou shalt not favour one industry over others

Thou shalt not permit massive and widescale corruption

Thou shalt not pardon thy brother

Thous shalt not commit nepotism nor cronyism

That's 10 for a start - same as the bible
