Chiang Rai and Imported Food

It's called the Chiang Rai Deli, I used to call it the Swiss Deli because there's not any noticeable signs and the owner is Swiss.

It usually stands out in an afternoon because a few farangs regularly sit outside with the owner having a chat over a beer.

Coming from the North you cross the new bridge, then a main road before reaching the street. You cannot turn left into it so you either go past or turn right towards the market.

I've done a larger map, shows how to get in from the super highway as well.

Wouldn’t Tops at Central Plaza be more like a FoodLand than the little roadside stall we are talking about?wink.png

Ah, but the topic heading is Chiang Rai and imported food.

I would assume, as the OP seems to live here, that he has checked out Tops and is looking for something a little different.

Tops has lots of imported stuff and is much more of a FoodLand like place, but you could be right.smile.png My assumptions were not as generous as yours, I guess.wink.png

Personally I would spend more on imported cheese and sausage at Kurt's than I do at Tops.

My main imported goods buy at Tops would be wine and I don't drink a lot of that.

Perfect, I see "Feel Corner" and a restaurant called "Ban-Klang-Wieng Restaurant" across the street.

Been to Tops and Lotus (living in Thailand 15 years) and looking for something a bit different. Though I haven't been to Tops in Chiang Rai before and will check it out. Hopefully I can stock up on things like olives, parmesan, etc so I can cook up a storm.

Olives and parmesan should be easy to find in Tops.smile.png I would start there, as it is the most convenient shopping area in town. It will give you a price base as well, so you can compare any relative cost advantage of the smaller shops.

When you consider the imported food stuff scene, or even finding decent bread, when I arrived here a few years back there's wonders to behold all over town now.

The deli behind Da Vinci's in the main street is worth a look as well.

While on the subject of food the Royal Project Shop had some very nice looking avocados this week.

Three large specimens for 50B.

Haven't tried one yet, they need to ripen for another couple of days.
