Nairobi attack: Kenya forces 'control all floors' of Westgate mall

NAIROBI: -- Kenyan security forces say they have taken control of all floors of the Nairobi shopping centre attacked by suspected al-Shabab militants.

The interior ministry said troops were combing the Westgate complex and it is "unlikely" any hostages were left in the building.

At least 62 people have been killed with more than 170 injured and there are fears the death toll will rise.

The Kenyan Red Cross has told the BBC that 63 people remain unaccounted for.

Americans among Nairobi mall attackers, Kenyan official says

NAIROBI: -- One of the Islamist militants wore a white turban, others black head scarves, witnesses said. Most were dressed in civilian clothes, but a few had donned camouflage fatigues.

Some carried sophisticated machine guns, others wielded the AK-47 rifles widely used by African insurgents. Most of the extremists who seized the upscale mall in Nairobi were young and barked orders in English.

By Monday evening, Kenyan security forces said they controlled much of the Westgate Premier Shopping Mall, although several militants from al-Shabab appeared dug in, determined to fight to the death.

It really is a powerful form of brainwashing. I remember many Americans calling the 9/11 hijackers "cowards".

I don't think someone sitting in front of an aircraft and flying it into a building is lacking cowardice.

This gap in understanding is what makes fighting these automatons so difficult.

Here are some powerful photos of the mall shooting in Nairobi – there’s too many for me to post and I’m sure every one of them are copywrited so I’ll just pass the link on.

Check out how much gun sense the Kenyan security forces have when you do view the pictures – not a single finger on the trigger.

Great idea keeping your fingers on a hair trigger before you deploy.

Special forces go all over the globe to learn stuff. I think if this guy was ''on duty'' he would have had back up and more ammo on his person. Lets see the full story that comes out of this.

watching the 7 oclock news in the UK at present and they are saying that a British woman is one of the group (if not the leader) that took over the mall.

Speculation is that it is a woman that has converted to Islam and is known as the black widow.

Considering the fact U.S citizens were among the attackers as well as some of the victims I find the lack of response by the U.S government somewhat baffling, especially in light of the POTUS himself having Kenyan roots.

They're hoping this event will 'just go away' like the Benghazi debacle.

It is not a secret that the British Army have a number of bases in Kenya and do in fact train the Kenyan military, these are called British Army Training Teams (BATTs). It is also not a secret that in their ranks they have a number of close to retirement SAS members., It is also known that these BATTs members whilst out of camp and off duty, i.e. a days shopping/relaxing in Nairobi, are legally allowed to carry a hand gun. This is possibly the scenario here, SAS chappie enjoying a private quiet coffee on a day off, when the world ignites around him, and he bravely reacted
