The supermarkets sell a lot of Chinese junk, depending on what tools you need some of the dirty looking shop-houses selling parts provide some nice Makita drills etc. or Heading South on Sukhumvit Road just past Therapist? (Don't think I mean Home Mart?)

If you have wheels, on Highway 3 coming into Ban Chang, just past the gas station coming from Sattahip is a well stocked hardware store. Makita, Dewalt, welding supplies, safety gear. Caters to Thai contractors. Good selection of hand tools, including individual wrenches as well as sets.

As advised by LennyW, I also recommend Hardware House. The Sriracha branch is actually on the southbound side of the main highway from BKK just before the intersection for Laem Chabang. They have an excellent range of all kinds of hand and power tools - as good as I've seen in Thailand (and I've seen a lot!).

Address from their website is in Thai, but the google map link is clear. http://www.hardwarehouse.co.th/

The traditional area for tools and hardware in Bangkok is in the zone around Klongton Centre off Thanon Worachak - there are many small soi's with specialist dealers for every kind of tool, fastener and engineering material imaginable, but it can take hours to walk around and see everything.

If you are looking for a cordless drill - I advise you to look for the latest models with LiOn batteries. The older NiMh batteries are much bulkier and fail relatively quickly. Even older NiCad's are useless.

The latest Bosch 10.8v (called 12v in USA) range are very small, but powerful. I've seen them sometimes in Homeworks/Homepro, but in Pattaya probably best source would be the main power tool dealer on north side of North Pattaya road between bus station and Sukhumvit junction. They have all of the brand catalogues and will order if they don't have the exact model you want in stock.

Here is a link to the Bosch Thailand website showing the 10.8 drills available in Thailand.

There is another page with impact drivers - I have several drills and drivers - they are excellent. The 12v models from USA (much cheaper there) are identical and interchangeable except for the 220v charger.

I need to find a 1 1/2 HP, 50Hz TEFC motor for my Delta Contractors Table Saw.

Anyone have an idea where to find this?

Delta has been no help.

Global house in Rayong has a lot of motors in stock, but not sure of the specs. At the far end of the shop, there is a row of display cases which sort of splits the warehouse - in there at the furthest away from the door end.

Hardwarehouse has just opened a new "mega " store out on the 36 Highway. It's about 5 kms past the Ban Chang turn off (traffic lights), heading towards Rayong. There is a large Shell petrol station next door. They have every power tool you can imagine at competitive pricing. if you get a "hardwarehouse" card from them you will usually get another 5% discount (near that anyway).

They also have a great range of induction motors similar to what "Fishbob" is looking for.

I just bought a new AEG battery drill from there, 12 volt with 2 lithium batteries and 1/2 hour charger. Cost me just under 5,000 baht with the discount card.

if you are looking for a more complete range of tools, not just basic power tools, you should go to China Town in Bangkok. There is a complete area that concentrates on these, other areas in China Town specialise in Motor Accessories or plastics, or metals, or fabrics and accessories. Another area specialises in guns and ammunition, and another second-hand which includes second hand power tools. Oh... and another in jewellery and fake watches. China Town is South of Hua Lampong Station.

I thought between Homeworks and Homepro you could manage a fair selection.

Add Tesco and Big C who do basics like drills and hand grinders.

not enough of a selection i am looking for more specialist tools for example was looking for a countersink bit the other day could not find one

also a special screw driver bit for drywall

I can second the new giant Hardware House on 36 as it has a huge selection of tools and supplies.

They have a dedicated counter near the front that has all the specialty bits and drills and such so they may very well have the countersink you need.

If you come in to Ban Chang on Suk just past the PTT station is a tool supply called RC. I would almost bet they have countersink bits.

I would try Hardwarehouse on the 36 for that sort of thing. They are more focussed on professional tools than the Homepro etc. They usually have two types of most tools, a Cheap Chinese product and also a more expensive Japanese or USA product for the professional.

RC in Ban Chang is also good as another poster said but they are very expensive compared to other places. We buy an insulating tape for work, at Hardware house it's 170 baht a box at RC in Ban Chang 340 baht.

But is any of the stuff real or is it all cheap knockoffs? One thing I don't want is power tools with substandard saw blades, drill bits, and the like. I value my eyes, fingers, etc. too much!

Does any of the stuff come with manufacturer warranties?

Delta has been no help.

Single phase or three phase? Might be easier and cheaper to get a rewind/bearing replacement than a new motor.
