Crime DSI, AMLO Seize Assets in Premier League Piracy Raid
Picture courtesy of SiamRath. Authorities have seized assets worth millions in connection with a large-scale copyright infringement and online gambling operation involving unauthorised streaming of Premier League football matches. The operation, coordinated by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), targeted individuals who illegally broadcast football matches via at least nine websites, including Tvsod.com, Bee789.com, Ballza.com, 7mscorethai.com, Dooballdotlink.com, and others. The broadcasts, which infringed on the exclusive rights held by TrueVisions Public Company Limited, were used to entice viewers into participating in online gambling, including football betting, lottery, baccarat and slots, some of which were operated from overseas. The DSI said the illegal activity, ongoing since 2020, caused losses exceeding 2 billion baht to TrueVisions and approximately 240 million baht globally through related online gambling networks. Investigations revealed the involvement of more than 150 bank accounts used as “front accounts” to launder money. During raids in Chiang Mai, authorities seized multiple assets, including: • Eight bank accounts • One house with land (60 square wah) valued at 6.99 million baht • One pickup truck • One Harley-Davidson motorcycle • One Honda motorcycle The DSI has identified four groups of offenders: 1. Account holders – often low-income individuals or foreigners providing accounts for fund transfers (150 people). 2. Page administrators and website developers – managing systems and handling funds (15 people). 3. Cash handlers – processing transactions and sending money to backers (20 people). 4. Financial backers and masterminds – funding and directing operations (10 people). Authorities have filed charges for multiple offences, including money laundering, commercial copyright infringement and illegal gambling promotion. Some suspects have already been prosecuted, while investigations continue to track others, some who have fled abroad. DSI officials confirmed they are working with international partners to apprehend the remaining offenders and hold the masterminds accountable, aiming to protect copyright holders and prevent further violations. Crime Thai & Malaysian Police Strengthen Cross-Border Cooperation
Picture courtesy of Naewna Police leaders from Thailand and Malaysia have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling transnational crime through strengthened cooperation at a high-level bilateral meeting. Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran Nualma, Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, headed the Thai delegation to the 28th Malaysia-Thailand Senior Police Officers’ Conference, held at the Geo Resort and Hotel in Pahang, Malaysia. He was joined by Pol. Maj. Gen. Wara Wetchaphinan, Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 9, Pol. Maj. Gen. Maitree Santayakul, Narathiwat Provincial Police Commander and 22 other Thai officers. On the Malaysian side, the delegation was led by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan, accompanied by senior Malaysian police officials. The four-day meeting, which ran from 18–21 August, served as a platform to review past cooperation, share operational experiences and establish more effective joint strategies to combat increasingly complex cross-border criminal networks. Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran stressed the mutual trust and determination between the two nations, noting that discussions had produced practical proposals to strengthen joint law enforcement. “Both sides are committed to enhancing cooperation in tackling transnational crime. The outcomes of this meeting will translate into concrete action, reinforcing the strong ties between Thai and Malaysian police,” he said. The two forces also signed a memorandum of understanding, setting out joint strategies for preventing and suppressing all forms of crime and security threats that affect both nations. Officials emphasised that closer cooperation will not only bolster law enforcement but also contribute to peace, stability, and security for citizens of both Thailand and Malaysia.
