Govt speeds up flood assistance in Prachin Buri Province

BANGKOK, 12 October 2013 (NNT) – The government is speeding up help for the flood victims in Prachin Buri Province as the Provincial Public Health Office has now been relocated after heavy inundation.

According to Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong, government officials have been ordered to assist the victims in all flooded areas, adding that medical units have to be on 24 hour alert until the flood situation returns to normal, especially in the areas where the water level is high.

The minister also told the officials to keep a close watch on the flood situations in Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, and Chachoengsao as the inundation could last months before returning to its normal state.

The minister went on to say that Prachin Buri Provincial Public Health Office had to temporarily relocate, while Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital had to transfer their patients to other hospitals due to the heavy flooding. Lastly, Minister Pradit said there have been 4 field hospitals set up in Prachin Buri to assist the people.

Thai govt to carefully study militants’ five demands, postpone peace talks
By English News

BANGKOK, Oct 12 – Thailand decided to postpone peace talks with southern militants to spend more time to thoroughly study the five demands proposed by Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) militant group.

Col Charoon Ampha, National Security Commission (NSC) advisor, said Thailand needs to carefully consider the BRN’s five demands on rhe basis of Thai and international laws.

The NSC has informed Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok of the delay and asked him to set a new date for the peace dialogues, originally scheduled for later this month, he said.

He said Thailand wanted explanations on why Thai Buddhist people have become targets of attacks by southern militants in the last several months since the Muslim Ramadan holy period in July-August.

He said the Thai military and police forces would continue to launch proactive operations to cope with militant attacks in the South. (MCOT online news)
