Recommend a budget 3 in one laser printer

I need a 3 in one printer and have been told that a laser printer is the way to go as the ink dries out on the ink jet printers, plus cartridges are expensive. It's probably not going to get a lot of use so nothing too expensive. Any recommendations?

Have been using a Brother MFC-7860DW for the past 6 months and had no problems. Cheap and cheerful but good results

I don't know what the Brother sells for in Thailand, but I see them online for around $300, so my idea of "budget" and yours might be a tad different. I was thinking around half that.

If you print a lot of pages, you won't have ink problems. 3 in 1 colour laser printers are not cheap. Besides, some toners come with chip and some toners may not have alternative / copy / generic chip so you may have to buy original and very expensive toners for each color.

Colour laser can't be used to print photos on photo paper, so it is a deal breaker for some.

Check Epson L210 or L350 (faster one). L210 is around 5000 baht, comes with factory made ink tank and one year warranty. 70 ml ink bottles are 250 baht each and it gives 3 colour + 3 black ink when you buy it (1 full set + 2 black only bottle).

As I said before, it won't be getting a lot of use, that's why I'm concerned about ink drying out. I'm also not interested in colour, black and white will meet my needs.

In that case just check monochrome 3in1 sets. They should be lower than 9000 baht, but not as low as 5000 baht.

if you will not use much, perhaps a regular inkjet printer with original ink (epson me-101 or epson me-340) should be sufficient. Original ink cartridges don't dry out even if you don't use it for long time.

I see a few 3 in one laser printers for as low as 4500 baht. This Canon is 4490 baht.http://www.lazada.co.th/canon-all-in-one-laser-printer-imageclass-mf3010-87133.html I guess a trip to Tucom an have a look around might be in order.

Take a look at Samsung laser printers too. After many years of using HP i've since bought 3 samsung laser printers for home and small office use.

Me too, same model, no complaints whatever but I do make sure we print in colour at least once a week - suggestion of another TV poster to ensure ink heads don't go dry / get blocked. But in reality we tend to copy / print etc. quite often for work and school.

We replaced the 4 standard ink tanks included at purchase with quite big size cartridges, quite reasonable price, from memory about 700Baht for the cartridges, each one about 30% full of ink, and installation. The big cartridges last for a very long time, and replacement ink (recently purchased at CM Pantip) 400Baht total for the 4 colours, decent size bottles.

As with everything look around and buy with 'Promotion' or on a SALE,

I bought on Promotion the Brothers DCP 1511, new model for 2013... Mono 3-in-one cost 2,790 baht. [1.000 baht reduction]

Have always had Canon Inkjet here, but got sick of the ink drying out and cost, so had tanks on the side fitted, printing not that good... so Mono Laser fitted the bill perfect black and white printing + on the odd occasion I need something in colour, pop it onto a USB storage, the print and copy shop charge 3 baht for colour Laser print.

As a pointer in Makro a few months back was a Samsung Colour all in one Laser, 6,xxx baht, down from 13,xxx baht. I maybe need 1 colour out of every 500 back and white.

I have a Brother DCP-1510 (Laser/scanner) on the corner of my desk, it does about 20 pages per minute, has 16mb internal memory and is an active printer, not like some other brands which use the graphical engine of MS Windows to print a page (very useful if you not want to be restricted to one operating system, the DCP-1510 supports Windows, Apple Mac and even Linux).

The price is about 2,700 ~ 2,900 THB

I have used laser printers for years . I am using a Samsung 3in 1 mono now and it goes well but Samsung toners are a bit more pricey than some of the othes . Am using a refilled toner tho without any problems. You will find Brother toners are cheaper than Samsung. The price of the toner is still a consideration even if you are not printing much.

Muratremix, I have never seen these chips you mention on laser toners altho you must buy the right toner model for your machine . However they could be chips, that measure the output of the toner and automatically order the supply of the next toners but these are only found on ultra expensive top-end machines. I have heard of chips on injet cartridges that mean you must buy genuine replacememnts for the inkjet printer tho .

Also we use photo paper in a Toshiba machine where i work and that works well for photos . It is a colour laser floor standing model and i have used other photo paper in other lasers and it worked okay except for a occaisional smudges on very high gloss paper and then the next page printed brilliantly.Do what ignis sugested and take it to a print & copy shop for special colour photos .

The other thing to look for when buying a laser printer is the cost of a new drum altho in 15 years of using laser printers i have only seen one that required a new drum and at age of the printer it was written off. Also auto duplex is nice feature for saving paper especially if you are printing reports or web pages.

Scorecard, I think you're mistaken on the model number. The MFC-7860DW is a monochrome Laser all-in-one printer. https://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/ModelDetail/4/MFC7860DW/Overview

That said, I also have the MFC-7860DW and love it. It has built-in Wi-Fi, which is a nice feature that allows me to stick it out of sight and a bit of a ways away from my desk. I also use auto-duplexing quite a bit for two-sided printing.

Sorry can't remember, maybe Office Depot when they had the closing sale, now called something different, or maybe Pantip 2 [Nonthaburi] always having Promotions on brand new things to Thailand. [introduction price]

This price is irresistible. Do you know how much costs replacement (not-geniune) toners cost in Thailand (if available?)

And for this price, I assume it comes with demo toner, half or quarter capacity of original one (250-500 page print instead of 1000)

I was quoted 800 baht for a samsung toner refilled at Mac Value in Suk 71. Paid 1100 just before that in Pantip so i will try the cheaper one when i next need one but that will not be for a while. Apparently you can fill your own for between 300 to 400 baht but if stuff up it is very messy.

To be honest I have never looked for a non-genuine toner, the original Brother TN-1000 toner is around 900 THB. I have the idea I have paid less but can only find an invoice of 900 THB.

The Borther DCP-1510 is perfect for me, I not print often sometimes not use it for a month and the first print after a long time looks as sharp as I first bought….

I used to have a Samsung color printer with duplex, don't remember the model but it was one of their 1st models, had a bad taste left in my mouth from using it, no real big issues, just a bunch of little nuisances here and there. Thankfully it was gone together with my ex-wife. :D

Then I bought a Brother MFC-9420CN Color with Network, awesome printer and still have it (in Canada) and still use it occasionally.

Then I bought a Brother DCP-7055 not so long ago here in Thailand, the price was I believe 3,990 Baht, for a 1000 you can get a 5 in 1 with auto doc feeder and fax function.

Brother is my preference in Laser Printers, while the initial cost is higher than the Inc. printers, the costs over the life of a printer can't compare. This may not be the case however with those huge tank systems available in Thailand.

In my knowledge all toners that come with printers (all brands) are of reduced capacity. With average usage, a laser toner lasts for years, it's clean comparing to inc printers, not sure how XEN found them messy? Even spilled powder is easier to clean than the spilled inc. Printed pages look sharper coming off the laser printer, they print faster, if pages get wet, you don't have inc running all over the page... so much more pros vs cons.

I use this site of order my printer supplies, huge savings comparing to buying the OEM and never had problems with compatibility yet. Don't know if they ship to Thailand though.

If not this, there are other similar sites I'm sure that sell printer supplies, google it.

Some HP non-geniune toners are sold for 450 baht in Bangkok (this is not refill price, completely new manufactured and sold under some small-brand toner). I found 900 baht is expensive considering it is just a small toner, no built-in drum or anything.

Thanks for all the info guys. It looks like my choice is either the Brother DCP1510 or the 1511, whichever I can find in Pattaya.

In America, Epson printers got the reputation to dry the tanks if not used often...That was 4 years ago....and happens with me, before knowing about. I had to trash a brand new one injet. Brother is a good brand. Here in Thailand looks like Canons are very popular and easy to gets serviced or repaired....Color laser cartridges can be very expensive. The cheapest 3x1 color injet printer is the HP for about 1400thb. Good brand, but cannot use the big ink thanks like Canons.. New HP cartridges cost over 500thb, but the used ones can be recharged for just 30thb. I got one and I am satisfied, but my use is limited. For large use, the black and white laser Samsung printer may be a good choice.

Oh, yes, they definitely dry out.

Changing to laser was the best I thing ever did. OP, go for it. Brother's good, Samsung, Epson. Canon, no, because of poor Linux support.

Just bought a Brother DCP1510 from Office Mate in Pattaya, get it home and just setting it up, when I find that the power plug doesn't fit any of the wall sockets or the power board sockets either. The plug has three big square pins, so I have no idea what country this is supposed to fit. Isn't this so typical of Thailand?

It is used in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Hong Kong, Malta, Cyprus and other countries. Compatible standards are IS 401 and IS 411 (Ireland), MS 589 (Malaysia), SS 145 (Singapore), and SASO 2203 (Saudi Arabia).

I've seen adapters in Homeworks and True Value.

Take a cable from one of the old computer towers, those are all standard plugs.

NO Brothers do not have this type of connection, cable is coming out of machine... no type of plug.

Re the English type Plugs on items sold here.......... have a look at the plug, unscrew cover, found a number of times it is an adapter with a 2 pin plug inside... would add on all the ones I found this, the 2 pin are round, not much help if you have 2 flat pin sockets..

Yes my new Bothers Laser had what looked like a black English plug, and yes unscrewed and was the round pin plug inside.

Yes, exactly the same as the plug you pictured. I took another trip into Office Mate this morning, they gave me an adapter for the plug, but no apology for inconveniencing me. I wonder how many others will buy a printer with the same plug, get home and find they can't plug it in?

Just bought an Epson CX17NF at Powerbuy for about 9,000 baht. I previously had inkjets, with aftermarket tanks and they just keep clogging up. I got sick and tired of unclogging so decided to take the plunge with the CX17NF (Color all-in-one LED printer).

The toner that it came with are "initial" toners and would last about 500 pages at 5% coverage. I bought replacement cartridges from a company from AliExpress for a lot cheaper (obviously not original replacements).
