Why do people feel the need to have tattoos or any other adornment?

Do you feel inadequate?

Not happy with how you are?

Will people only love/see you if you have an grotesque accessory? :D

Someone please explain it to me!

i think that the answer to your questions has already been answered beachcomber. you only need to read through the posts to see this.

it has nothing to do with inadequacy, not being happy with who you are or whatever. one of the most beautiful tattoos i have seen was on a guy in koh samet. it was a full back job of ganesh. stunning. far from grotesque!

as i, and many others on this thread, have mentioned, it is a personal thing. we all have our own reasons for our tattoos and most of the time this reason is personal. many peoples tattoos are not on public show anyway, so you never know what is lurking under that shirt sleeve!

you are entitled to your opinion, and so are those of us who choose to get inked. we like it. you dont. we dont call your white, unadorned skin grotesque, so please refrain from calling other people such names.

rant over.

One of the girls I met in Thailand last year had her whole back covered. There was a large Buddha in the middle, a representation of her star sign as well as lots of other symbols and script from buddhism. It facsinated me and I laid there for hours admiring the detail that had gone into the work. It encouraged me to have my own done and when I found the right symbol I had no hesitation in taking the plunge.
