PM targets 2 trillion baht revenue from tourism, focuses on safety

BANGKOK, 19 Oct 2013 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has set a target that Thailand will earn 2 trillion baht from the tourism industry by the year 2015, while focusing on safety of the tourists.

Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, during “PM Yingluck Meets the People” program on NBT, mentioned that as Thailand’s target is to reach revenue of 2 trillion baht from the tourism industry in 2015, the government will speed up its process in developing all major tourist attractions and transportation routes, as well as getting all relevant agencies involved in providing safety for the tourists.

She added that the government is keen on connecting Thailand with its neighboring countries through auspicious events such as the renowned Naga Fireball festival and the Illuminated Boat Procession festival.

PM Yingluck went on to elaborate on the government’s safety measures for tourists, saying more policemen will be deployed in travel places, whereas closed circuit televisions or CCTVs will be put up in all cities across Thailand.

The PM is also keen to help locals and officials improve their English language, so that when they come across a foreigner who might be in trouble, he or she will be able to communicate and quickly react to certain situations.

That should be enough to pay for the medical expenses of the 0.000001% of foreigners who run into trouble.

maybe the 2 trillion include already the idea to take 1000 Baht from everyone for an insurance what doesn't pay anything.

Here's a thought, if you want to increase safety surely less police would be best.

No, more police needed to look after the welfare of the traveling public. Tourists will feel safer.whistling.gif

The influence of our PM is amazing, truly!

Even before we had this topic there was another one with "Transport Ministry to enforce seatbelt fastening". I'm really starting to feel safe now and I'm not even a tourist thumbsup.gif

Ironically, if they make the tourist visas easier to obtain and of longer duration, it would have the effect of reducing the number of individual visits because so many individuals make numerous hops in and out just to be able to stay.

She can thus magically increase the amount of tourists on paper by making visas of shorter duration.

Bear in mind also , they targettef a growth of exports and GDP by a given percentage and have missed by 50%. Good luck people.

This probably means that dual pricing for Farang will extend to every single thing that you want to do. If you go in a Supermarket and buy 1,000 Baht's worth of groceries they will look at you and press a button on the till that says 'Farang double up ' and hey presto...your bill is now 2,000 Baht. Bar fines? Well, pick any figure out of the sky you like.

All Yellow Books and Driving Licences will be revoked in order that no Farang gets a discount anywhere and mandatory Sin Sod of a minimum 10 million Baht applies if you want to marry that Issan babe you've been eyeing up lately. Minimum in the bank for Retirement Visa 2 million Baht and Marriage Extension 1 million.

Add up that little lot and they will have change left over for more pocket money.

She's trying to make the money for the high-speed rail debacle-to-be look like pocket change in comparison to all the big numbers she's throwing around.

Alice in Plundeland uses thaksinspeak yet again.

Her comments must surely by now rate an entry into the Guinness Book of Records for the record number of most made inane comments by a puppet head of state.

She's the Prime Minister not the Head of State. You need to think (seriously) before you type especially when using insults.

They can make even more money if they stop the hassle at immigration points. At the main airport Thai immigration works disorgarnized and way too slow by spending on average 5 to 10 minutes on a person, while hundreds of tourists are queuing up and wondering why it is taking so long! In comparison it is spent about 30 sec per person in Hong Kong airport! The airport is the first impression Thailand makes, therefore by improving immigration procedures would greatly benefit Thailand as a whole.

The big question is, who has their hand up Yingluks ass? All puppets need a master.

I do not know what lines you stand in but has never taken 5 to 10 min. per person at any immigration control line I have been thru.

Probably the same queue as me at swampy. Twin lines merging into one.

Took me over an hour. One time only took 10 mins.

What about leaving? Notice on check-in desk - go straight to immigration after check-in because of immigration queues.

So much easier flying out from CM via Bangkok.

As a tourist, it would definitely make me think twice to visit somewhere to queue over an hour to get in. Welcome to Thailand, when are you going?
