hi

please could you clarify, i want to apply for a spouse visa to the uk for my thai wife, i have 2 children with her and both have british and thai passports. Do the following statement apply to my children,

'You must have an income of at least £18,600.

If you are sponsoring a child as well as a partner you will need an income of at least £22,400.

For each additional child being sponsored you will need an additional income of £2,400. For example, if you are you are bringing 2 children with you to the United Kingdom, you must have and income of £22,400 and £2,400 for the additional child, so a total of £24,800'. (Found at the uk home office)

No, the British children don't count towards the required income. You are not sponsoring your own children; they will be exercising their right as British citizens.

While from the argument of demonstrating an ability to support your wife, it may seem odd to ignore them, pragmatically, ignoring them makes sense. If you brought your children to the UK but not your wife, the amount you would need in tax credits would go up even if you didn't end up receiving benefits. (Child benefit was supposed to be a combination of family benefit, to encourage the raising of British families, and the tax allowance for the children transferred to the mother as actual money.)
