I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, I apologise if not...

I currently have a 1 year work permit, and am employed. I was under the assumption that my one year permit meant that I didn't have to do anything visa-wise for one year, I know I am an idiot, lets get that right out there… it clearly states on the visa expires on xxx date.

Its at > 20k baht, meaning the maximum charge isn't going up for any longer I postpone my border run, I have to leave the country since I let it expire, and pay the fine. I know if they catch me I'm screwed, but if I turn myself in at the border/airport with the fine in hand I'm good to go.

My question is what is the best way to do this? My work has set me up with a company that is charging me 10k baht, for a bus ride to laos, and they are handling all the paperwork, this includes hotels for a few days, and they pick me up and drop me off at my doorstep… but I think that is still massively overpaying, I'm not sure what charges are affiliated with getting the new visa, so maybe its like 8k in all that stuff and the trip is 2k, I have no idea, can someone with a little more knowledge enlighten me on if this is getting ripped off?

i could fly directly to Kuala Lampur, stay with some friends for a few days, and make a vacation out of it for 10k baht, but I'm not sure how much of a hassle all the paperwork/added fines are going to be, anyone help me out? or recommend another agency that handles things like this? I'd like to shop around and make sure I'm not getting hosed on the price, at first the guy said 20k, then I said forget it and he called back and said 10k lol, so clearly there was a bit of wiggle room. I'm very broke at the moment so any help is greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

Better in visa forum really perhaps mod will come along shortly and move it for you.

As far as I know, and based on other posts, I believe paying the fine at the airport (swamppy) is considerabky easier and more straight forward than a land border.

Others will comment soon enough.

Go to a Lawyer, you can get a sick note VISA. It's a 2 month extension but you will have to pay the original over stay. Then there is no issue

He is not sick from his post and apparently is working here illegally (as he has no valid visa entry) so he needs to take care of that now. Depending on the paperwork he will either obtain a single entry non immigrant B visa for 2,000 baht or a multi entry for 5,000 baht so suspect that accounts for much of the 10k fee. Depending on nationality there will be more than 1k for Laos visa plus hotel fees and transportation - obviously they can not be paying the 20k fine out of a 10k fee. So without knowing what visa you are getting it is kind of hard to judge. Paperwork will be rather large for the type of visa you need and not all locations require the same things. But normally would recommend air departure for anyone with overstay as just safer.

That's a new one. The 'sick note' visa? I think I know what you are alluding to but doesn't that require a doctor to countersign? Being actually sick may also be a requirement.

The OP is correct inasmuch as paying the overstay at the airport is 'easier' than the land border. If the employer (who doesn't seem to be paying you much of a salary if your are broke... but that could be a lifestyle choice) is happy to provide the FULL AND CORRECT supporting paperwork, a single-entry Non-O from KL would fit the airport method and be done over 3 days if not rushing. If you shop around, you can get bargains on Lufthansa, Turkish, Egypt and Ethiopian if AirAsia can't come up with something cheap at short notice. However, those carriers all operate afternoon/outward, evening/inward flights so budget for 2 nights in KL.

Then you file an extension on the new Non-O in-country and do the 90-day reporting and/or border run with exit/re-entry permit.

He needs a B visa. There are reports KL is not even doing a single entry B visa now.

Oops, that's right, a B visa.

I guess KL is in even greater visa lock-down after their stolen visa sticker fiasco.

Then again, just a few days ago, someone posted here about being offered a multi Non-O at KL as he was turning in the application for a single one. There's absolutely no rhyme and reason anywhere at the moment.

Good luck to the OP.

Why is it everyone that comes on here with an overstay has the same problem. They did not pay attention and are broke.

Either people have no financial responsibility or they are taking the wrong jobs. Hell teaching English makes 30k a month minimum.

In this case due t not having a legal visa is his work permit not void??

How long is your overstay?

Best option is to go to your local Immigrations office and pay the fine and apply for extension of stay.

Fee is 1900 baht + overstay penalty that is 500/day with a maximum of 20.000 baht.
