Well, it's only taken me years as usual to figure out this complex procedure using my now well established first principles of completely random actions. Adding a border or frame in Lightroom under the 'Print' menu and then printing to JPEG directly from RAW presents work in a much nicer way than just splattering photos all over the place.

It's not that difficult to set up and you can save the style as a preset.

Borders - extremely easy to do in Photoshop....

1. set background colour (black, white, whatever)

2. Top menu - Image---Canvas Size---New Size - to taste

done!

(repeat if you want a 2 'colour' border)
