VIDEO: Fat foreigner filmed stealing bag from Phuket KFC

PHUKET: -- Police are looking for a fat foreigner, possibly a tourist, who was seen on security camera stealing a backpack from the Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet at Banana Walk on Patong’s beach road on Wednesday afternoon (November 13), just after 4pm.

The bag belonged to Pichet Rabumpleung, who had stopped in the fast-food outlet for something to eat. His phone rang, he told police, and he walked outside the shop to take the call. When he came back, his bag was gone.

He asked KFC staff if they had seen anything, but they had not. He also asked tuk-tuk drivers if they had seen anyone carrying his bag. The answer from them, too, was negative.

He then asked the KFC staff to check footage from their security camera. He recorded the footage on his phone and then posted it on his Facebook account before informing police.

The video clearly shows a fat, balding foreigner in shorts and a white wife-beater shirt with the number 96 on the back, looking out of the window, and then around him.

He gets up from his seat, picking up a black baseball cap, his wallet and sunglasses, and then walks over to where Mr Pichet left his backpack.

He takes the bag and then calmly strolls out of the KFC.

Anyone knowing the foreigner is asked to contact police in Patong.

It was an opportunity theft that could of been avoided by the owner of the bag but still the same its stealing.

Hope he gets caught and shammed on social media and local news.

48 hours in the lock up and 3000 baht fine and kicked out of Thailand should be the penalty.

Its a low life thing to do and it he should be treated accordingly.

I am (almost) disappointed. I was sure the victim was going to mention that he had his wallet (with 200,000+ baht in it), credit/atm cards, passport, 500,000 baht in gold jewellery and his Ferarri all in that bag !

Fat balding Foreigner wearing a wife-beater and shorts. We can safely exclude 8% of the Western foreigners currently in Thailand from the list of suspects.

On the other hand, looking for a fat balding foreigner in Tourist areas is like looking for a soi dog - you fall over 200 of them on every street corner.

As much as i dislike being 'observed' by CCTV's ..they are definately good evidence after the fact...no denials likely from this guy once he's collared..

Most of the CCTV footage I've seen is actually someone using a phone camera or other camera and videoing the TV monitor.

Because the victim recorded it on his phone from the store's security footage which is also why the video appears to move throughout.

This breaking news story has me on the edge. What will happen next, call in the police, life in jail, large insane fines, increased security at KFC, maybe even a story from the local mayor about this terrible incident damaging tourism.

The security camera doesn't follow him.

This is a video taken from a smart phone of the security footage.

You can see the full frame at 27 seconds - after that you can see how the phone-cam scrolls across the screen as the thief moves - the camera hasn't panned (the time stamp is also a giveaway that the security camera doesn't move).
