Where in Chaing Rai can I find a good dental clinic that can do dental implants? Any idea of costs for visits/treatments?

Thanks in Advance.

hello jandb

i was recomended to go to a goverment run dental clinic on thanalai rd opposite the old chaingrai prison next to a goverment sattelite place i think, the clinic is run by dentists who normally work at the hospitals but work at this clinic on a saturday, i found the clinic very clean.

they charged me 300 bhat for an extraction and 8,000 bhat for top and bottom dentures that was 50% cheaper than what i had been quoted by a private dentist

Many of us have found the dental clinic at Sriburin Hospital to be excellent - quality treatment at a reasonable price as well as good English language skills. Dr. Kwanthep is very good as are the others there.

One must wonder why annonymous recommendations from people hading under pen-names would mean anything to you.

There are lots and lots of good dentists here. Do you have a doctor? That's a fairly obvious place to start looking for a professional recommendation.

Do you speak any Thai? If not, that cuts out my dentist (with whom I've been quite happy for over 7 years), and others on Trirat Road.

Are you aware of the dental office across from Boots, on Pahonyothin? They have good English, and many customers who come from afar to save money (including friends of mine, well satisfied over many years).

Yes, please, go all to the others.

I wished you would have kept the existence of Dr. Kwanthep a secret, dear Mymechew! :o

The nice thing of the Chiang Rai dentists is that they refer their patienst to a specialist when it concerns a treatment somebody else can do better than themselves. Isn't that quite special?

Thanks for all the replies.

I have never been to Chiang Rai but will be coming for a few months at the end of May. The reason I asked the question is because dental implants are quite specialized and very few clinics do it, usually it is done in established cosmetic dental clinics. I was hoping for a recommendation and some prices.

Yes jandb, we perfectly understand that you are looking for someone who goes to the dentist on your behalf. Any volunteers?

Untill now I didn't speak anybody in Chiang Rai, who is not satisfied with his or her dentist.

Everybody praises the pleasant and professional way they are treated here.

And as I mentioned before, the dentists of Chiang Rai will even refer you to a colleague if they think he/she would perform better on a specific treatment. So don't worry about your implants!

It would be very difficult to find out who is the best (going to twenty dentists and let them all do a filling?), but they all seem to be good, based on the experience of the expats I spoke to.

Concerning those among us suffering from odontofobia (an irrational fear of the dentist):

There is no dentist in Chiang Rai who uses laughing gas for treatment. The nearest place where this is done is in Chiang Mai (see the Chiang Mai Forum).

The dental clinic of the Sriburin Hospital will provide total anaesthesia in cases where this is not avoidable. And sedatives when necessary. I can assure you: It works!
