Thai women don't care about age, they care about some sort of security and a guy that doesn't beat them or fool around with the ladies.

You're right and wrong at the same time, transam. But what if they can't get their sexual desires from same old man? Isn't it common sense that they'll get it from somebody else?

A very good point! The same older foreigners here living in LOS for decades to a certain extend refuse to learn even easy phrases in Thai. They think it's enough if the wife speaks it.

No, in my experience Thai women do not 'prefer' older men. This is a misconception created by the Farang-oriented sex industry in Thailand. If there are individual Thai women out there who claim to be looking for an 'older man', I am confident that in 99% of cases that would be based on the perception that an older man may be a better provider : at 55, I dont have a problem with that either way.

IF, (notice the big IF) a Thai woman prefers and older gent, say 20 to 30 year gap between them, it's because of the following reasons:

1. He is retired, has some money and gets a pension.

Therefore, he can provide for her.

2. His sexual activities are cut by 2/3, compared to when he was younger.

Surely it's no different to a woman in your own country. Most Common would be a slightly older man to woman.

My past other half's have always been younger by at least 5 years. Biggest age gap was 14 years needless to say it didn't last long.

My in-laws are the same age, my sister-in-law and husband are the same age, cousins, friends, etc, all within a couple of years of each other. Most poor, divorced Thai women with children take what they can get. Sad, but society sees them as damaged goods, old, used, etc,. unless of course they are well off, then every Tom, Dick and Harry is queuing up.

A foreigner 10-20 years senior is a great option for financial security. Moreover, he thinks he's bagged a winner - the Thais see it in the complete opposite way. Nevertheless, many of these relationships work out well because the foreigner sees beyond the societal stereotyping and the lady beyond his wrinkles. In many cases the woman finally has a chance to flourish and grow into herself without restriction. She gains relative freedom and emotional and financial support. In other cases things just don't work out because of the age gap is too great and they simply have nothing in common, or the foreigner turns out to be a worse bet than the last Thai boyfriend - too much drinking, going to go-go bars etc, etc.

Although people tend to tarnish all foreign-Thai relationships with the same brush, every relationship is unique, with two unique individuals involved, each with a different life story.

On my first visit to Festival Mall in CM today, we spotted loads of old Thai guys walking around the mall and having lunch with their 'daughters'. You guys that think it's abnormal ought to get out a bit more.

I see your point, but then after xx amount of years of marriage I doubt there are many men who don't have the urge to sleep with someone other than their wife. I'd say it's pretty normal considering men think about a sexually related something every minute or so. Some act on it others drown out the desire through booze or long working hours.

As a broad generalization, single, previously unmarried Thai women will prefer Thai men of their same age range. However, once a Thai woman has been divorced, especially if she has children, she is considered by Thai men to be undesireable. Hence, as a matter of economic security, they will begin looking at farang men, and older men, as has been mentioned, tend to be more stable and less likely to play around. They also tend to be better off financially, at least by Thai standards. A significant percentage of the very young girls that one sees being accompanied by older farang males are professionals, and for them it's just a job.
