Foreign Ministry assures ambassadors of Govt’s patience with protesters

BANGKOK, 3 December 2013 (NNT) – The Foreign Ministry has assured foreign ambassadors of the government’s patience with the anti-government demonstrators as several countries have offered to be an intermediary.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul has summoned a meeting with ambassadors and representatives from 60 countries and 8 international organizations, during which he explained the situation to them and affirmed that the government would be patient with the demonstrators in order to prevent possible violence.

As of now, 10 countries have expressed their concerns over the current political conflict in Thailand, he added

According to the minister, Switzerland, England, USA, and China have currently expressed their willingness to act as a mediator to help settle the conflict, as they all want to see peace restored in this country. The government is open to all suggestions and is willing to consider proposals from those countries, Minister Surapong said.

The minister also played down rumors that officers have been using life bullets against demonstrators, saying it was a distortion of facts as the government would never hurt the people. He also voiced his concerns to the ambassadors over possible interference from a third party.

Minister Surapong has recently been assigned by the Thai Premier, Yingluck Shinawatra, to oversee the operation of the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO).

well that leaves a wide interpretation! Third party as in interference from one person (in Dubai) or more than one person (the army)? Or a polite way of saying to the Ambassadors we are happy for suggestions, but don't expect us to act on any of them!

You guys gotta make your mind up. Is the man in Dubai running the show here via his sister and going up against Suthep (as many have claimed). Or is he now out of the main picture and coming in as a third party. I believe there are more parties involved and operating from the woodworks.

However for some reason, most TV posters get a hard on for bringing in the man whenever there is a suggestion of a invisible hand in play.

Some of you guys have been watching too many James Bond movies. There is no master criminal sitting in a desert fortress stroking his pet cat creating chaos a thousand kilometres away.

34 countries issue Thailand travel warnings

BANGKOK, Dec 3 - Thirty-four countries have issued Thailand travel warnings, mostly level 2 warning for extra caution, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Sugree Sithivanich, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, said only Israel, Slovak, Russia advise a more serious warning to level 3 to avoid non-essential travel.

TAT has been reporting the country's situations through its website as well as to its domestic and overseas offices and related associations to inform facts to travellers in order that they use the information to decide their travel to Thailand.

Mr Sugree said his organisation is also preparing other public relations means in case of emergency to protect the country's image.

Tourism promotion plans continue as planned, he noted, such as His Majesty's birthday celebrations on Dec 5 upcountry and New Year countdown celebrations at CentralWorld Department Store in Bangkok.

Mr Sugree said the number of tourists targetted at the end of this year could still be reached and has not been readjusted at 26 million. (MCOT online news)

How do you know that?

Well I can't definitively prove that there are no unicorns or tooth fairies. This does not mean that I believe in them.

When was the last time you heard of an evil mastermind plotting the downfall of a country from thousands of miles away. Have you even heard of someone like that in recent history? You guys give T too much credit.

And the idea that millions of people decided that a middle aged mum with no political experience whatsoever should be their next Prime Minister without his influence is believable?

This is reason for the Thai administrations conductance during the protests. Now it is manifest....the many Thai peoples anger at corruption is being internationally broadcasted but the administration is showing an innocent and victismised face. This issue is being well managed locally and exploited internationally...supporting the administration.

So defensive but is actually offensive.

playing to international concerns....whilst disregarding the nationals.

Another head of the hydra.

Honestly, if this were any other country, the USA would be thrashing about to provoke "regime change." Just think if other countries had convicted for PMs exiled and pulling the strings in the home country for the past 3-4 years? Think about all those countries where the US and/or UK has interfered for the last seven decades. Can you imagine the discussions between MI6 and the CIA regarding Thailand? It is astonishing that the US and its allies have tolerated this "Thai thing" all these years. Very unstable, corrupted, exposed risky country to Thai people, to freedom, to law and order and to travelers around the world.
