New Years Eve Dinner - Will I luck out again?

Hello CM Peeps. I have been to CM for the last 3 New Years and I always luck out for NYE dinner. There are a couple of nice places on the river that I always try to get in at but they always tell me full. I admit I usualy enquire a day or two before NYE so yes I guess its my own fault. That said, is there anywhere you guys suggest that I could call and book with over the enxt day or two?

The View (I think it was called the view) is a fave place of mine but last year, despite trying to bung the manager some money I couldnt get in.

Any suggestions? A nice dinner on the river would be nice. Or maybe something actualy ON the river if exists?

Any other suggestions for a realy good NYE dinner with atmosphere?

Many thanks

Hundreds of restos in town, perhaps you can try further out. Forget the name but there is a place with good music near the u-turn underpass where the river intersects the highway Northbound near Tesco. Good music, no big crowds

Speaking of the river view spots on Chareonrajd road at least one of them does not accept bookings after 8pm, nor do they accept bookings on holidays at all. Don't believe there is any unfair discrimination. I was happily shocked one Saturday evening, 20:30, High Season snagging a prime view table for a party of 8, all foreign, older, and average looking. Our female colleagues are all 50+ non Thai asian women minimum size 18! In some places I doubt we could get into BurgerKing on NYE.

More and more I think Holiday hype is not worth the effort. 3 years ago we got all dressed up on NYE and rode motorbike accross town in the worst traffic imaginable. Xxxxxxx restaurant Italiano initially tried to blow us off when we appeared "Full, Impossible" , although we made booking months in advance! Had I not brought a printout if our email correspondence we would likely not have been seated. Last year we did a gala dinner at LeMeridien. It was fun but cost an arm and a leg. One can have a great time just walking around Thaepae swigging Veuve or Chang straight from the bottle, enjoy the fireworks!

Best to not make a big deal of Holidays' and hype anyway. In my country, not likely to venture out on NYE due to danger and expense. Always a house party somewhere in the condo, everyone brings food and BYOB.

Sorry the river place with good foods and music is called Yoy's and it is on the west side of the river at the route 11 U-turn underpass, so on the westbound side, not north. There is also another spot across the river I have not tried. If you do not need river there is a "Country" style pub in the complex behind Big C. Commendable Thai food and an awesome live Bluegrass combo. Never seen a crowd there.

**What I meant by the older and average looking comment is that in many Asian and Western capitols, it is a scandalous and ugly reality that restaurant managers seat "atractive/ wealthy" types at the expense of dribbling oldsters and the "unfashionable" Do not think a problem in CM .

I revel in my unfashionability and dumpiness.

I've been trying to contact Dukes and Riverside to request a reservation but neither web sites seem to work. Does anyone have an email address for either of these? Any other suggestions for a good Christmas day and New Year dinner?

thanks

Here are a couple of email addresses for The Rivermarket. [email protected] and info@theriv ermarket.com. You should get through using those but I have been advised in the past to ring.

And for the original poster: you won't a nicer riverside place than The Rivermarket and I don't just mean in Chiang Mai.

There are two email addresses for the River Market, which is the same owner as Dukes:

Actually I prefer The River Market to both Dukes and Riverside these days.

Actually there is three dukes here in Chiang Mai now another one was added at the Promenada.

If you have trouble with the e mail addresses or the phone number just start a thread on the Dukes. Dave will respond to it.

I hear he has a x mass do for a lot of money. Apparently it has every thing on it buffet style.

He might not have Elk on it that is a shame.
