CM: I Want To Share House: M/ F I Q135-145 Interests:Thai,Study, &Study!

I am planning to stay in the Chiang Mai area, close to CMU as possible.

I am tired of living in serviced apts because I don't like the influx of touring farang, and touring Asians.

Also, living in a serviced apartment is much like living in a hotel, with new guests arriving daily, sort of like sleeping in a train station in some respects.

I have recently decided to stay in CM for approximately three years, (1000 days), and I need a place which is quiet, comfortable, devoted to study (not partying, smoking, boozing, or carrousing with a new partner every Sunday.)

I was thinking that if I were to cooperate with two other like minded indiividuals, then we could each spend Baht10,000, and for 30M total we could probably find a house with wood floors, a flower garden, a place to grill meat, and set up a 50 Mbps internet connection, with WiFi all over the place, as well as ethernet wired connection points.

I suppose I would prefer University instructors who are old enough that serious study is what is on their minds more than anything.

I am no prude, and sometimes I do enjoy a bash. I just do not want this to be a regular occurance. I also prefer classical music, and I stopped listening to Pop when I gave up chewing gum, back in the early 70s.

Why did I mention the IQ? I was not being facetious in any way. Looking back on my short life, I have realized that people with IQs not too far from my own are just more interesting for me to talk to. I find I do not need to explain too much, explain the obvious. And I am less likely to be considered weird.

I am not overly optimistic about the world and its short term prospects for a safe recovery after the past 200 years. I do not like pink tinted thinking. But I do not like gloomy people, and that is why I am here where I see people smiling from dawn to dusk every day. I just like to be around people who are able to both clearly see reality and cope with it.

My interest is in All things Asian, including Thai, Thai culture, and Thai language, and food, and music. But I am NOT INTO THE WEIRD farang type mysticism that you often find in Thailand. I CANNOT STAND IT, and I would move out of any place I found it. The writers like Deepak Upchuck from India are just out there, too far from reality. I am not here in this world to look for any altered state, or altered reality. Life is too far out as it is.

I will add more if I think of it below, but I just wanted to start this off ASAP.

I will probably want to do/have about 1 month preparation to decide and leave and move from my present place. I like this place very much, but I just do not believe it will be best for a complete 1000 day stay.

ALSO, I would PREFER, PREFER to live with Thai roomates. That is just a preference, but of course if you are farang and interested then we might luck out in the end.

Please, if you do not have at least a BA from a top school, do not contact me because it will not be what I am looking for here, and you would be happier with some other roommate, no doubt.

I am also seeking to develop some new friendships, not just find roommates, because there is a chance that I will stay in Thailand for 10,000 days instead of 1000, when I finally decide what I will do with the rest of my life.

If you are a SCIENCE based environmentalist, and are actually in the field, this would be a big plus for me, just as it has already been a big plus for you, I am sure. So, any scientists out there, especially Thai scientists, I would love to meet.

REGARDING ENGLISH LANGUAGE $HELP$/INSTRUCTION: This, I do not do. But I am always very happy to have free conversation with smart people who are trying to master the English language. And I very much enjoy helping them whenever I can. So If I were to live in the same house with Thai people, or Chinese people, who are learning English at a more advanced level. THEN YES, I will help you if I can, in any way I can.

Another thing: I like girls, and women. I would prefer to have all girls living with me. But if you are a scientist, then you can be male, and I will be happy to share the house with you, and we can cook together, because scientists, especialy organic chemists, make the best Thai cooks.

Thank you very much for reading this far, if you have.

Sorry to have bored you if I have.

Please PM me, or just write your thoughts below.

If you want to give me a few jabs, or gibes, for having my preferences, then please feel free.

However, do not attack this thread, please, or make it a joke, because I am serious, and I need to find a new place to stay within the next 45 days.

Merry Christmas to everyone, I am not a Christian, but I respect all relgiious beliefs, if not TOO strange.

Certainly all the major religions I do have respect for, even though I am not a believer.

But I cannot tolerate evangalists, or people who think they can improve me or my life.

Oh, how I have tried, without much effect, and no harm done, because I am pretty happy so far.

Lastly, if I find one of those old wooden Thai traditional houses that has been well maintained,

I think I will have it made in the shade, literally.

(I should not even need to state this: But, no ilicit drugs. I do not like things which are against the law here. And even if it were not against the law, I DOUBLY do not like to be around people that are spaced out and not serious about putting maximum effort into study, and meaningful accomplishment of important tasks.)

Good luck with that! But it seems you are too far up your own ar$e to find 2 more like minded people.

try to find a chicken with teeth, it will be easier.

Sent via tin can and string after pigeon shot

One never knows what can be found here on this glorious forum, and I mean that sincerely.

If there are 1000 farang, and 100 Thai readers of the CM forum, then there might be 1 or 2 individuals in 1100 that might be able to tolerate me.

And, if they can tolerate me, I know they will enjoy sharing a house, or abode, with me.

Maybe you might, too.

If you qualify.

Thank you for the input, however.

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that the place I am now living is pretty wonderful, with a super staff, and guests, too, who are easy to live with

There is no problem here where I am now living, and I will be sad when I must leave.

So, I would say this is sort of an example of a Approach-Approach conflict:

1. I like where I am.

2. I can also see the advantages of a better situation.

3. But the conflict arises from having two places, one existing and one envisioned, where I want to stay.

(I just did not want anyone to think that I am not easily pleased by the good things in life, and also explain that finding a nice place, about the same level as I presently have, will not be easy, but can be done, and is worth the time to find.)

LOL! After reading that, I think that having only one of you in C.M., living in the same house, is the definition of overnumerousness.

Well, I am not so sure, because I do not have any bad habits which cause others misery, and that alone should be welcome in CM.

Sure, I know my preferences, as stated, might sound a bit strange or amusing to you. I am just attempting to be as honest as possible up front so that I can have a better chance of finding a better match, or matches.

I am not concerened here with PC, and I think that we should leave this to the tourists.

I am sure there are a few here who sympathise with some of my points of view.

And, I am just sorry one of them may not be you.

Earlier, I did receive a nice PM contact from an interested seeker of accomodation, and I want to mention one more qualification:

I am sorry but I just cannot tolerate living with anyone who believes in conspiracy theories.

I do not say that you should not have them, since you are free to believe in whatever you wish.

However, I am unable to live with someone that believes in conspiracy theories, mysticism, ghosts, or the supernatural.

If you wnat to know why:

Get yourself a very high power telescope, like the Hubble.

Point it at one tiny spot where there are no visible stars, not even with powerful telescopes do you normally see points of light there.

Then train the Hubble at that spot for 24 or more hours.

You end up with somethign more magical than anything the Ghost Busters poked fun at.

This is why the natural world is more wonderful than anything that some of us create in our own vacuuous minds.

Who needs god when one has the Hubble and the galaxies?

Just my opinion, and, as I say, religious beliefs are welcome, just not conspiracy theories.

Thanks.

Here's a good template you can use for your roommate agreement.

http://wiki.the-big-bang-theory.com/wiki/Roommate_Agreement

I would be happy and feel priviliged to share a house with you!

Good sense of humor, good when we see the world about to end.

Skynet clause (0206)

Specifies what happens if:

  • one friend needs help to destroy an artificial intelligence he's created and that's taking over Earth.

Body Snatchers clause (0206)

Specifies what happens if:

  • one friend needs help to destroy someone they know who's been replaced with an alien pod.

Godzilla clause (0206)

Specifies what happens if:

  • someone threatens to destroy Tokyo.

(Again, J, nice find!)

You sound like fun but personally could not stand all the me me me. You come across as having somewhat of an open mind--yes Hubble will pull out millions of galaxies wherever you point it--but then spoil it by denouncing other things you possibly have no experience with. At the quantum level on down to strings, anything is possible. That is not being wishy-washy or 'out there', that is the way it is... have a read and open up that mind, chum, and good luck.

In your shoes, I'd get my own place and duck into the Writers' Club when I'd need to rub shoulders with the nobs. Try the likes of Land & Houses in Mae Jo where you could find a house with garden for 10k.

Good advice,

As usual.

I do know a 32 year old Thai professional, a medical researcher who studied in the States. Hiso family with perfect Bangkok Thai, lover of international cuisine and after discussing your post he sees you as an intersting and challlenging person with whom he could discuss some of the great issues for western society and yet still be Thai in his own way. In this case his own way includes a recently surgically enhanced rack but for the mean time retains a desire to urinate in the standing position. Before exploring the opportunity you present he wanted some indication as to your welcoming what he termed "the best of both worlds", and whether you played wide receiver in college.

Sounds like you are into Hypermodernity. I must say I like your comment on conspiracy theories. They infuriate me. I know as soon as I hear the word conspiracy, postulated as a serious position, to watch out as I am usually talking to a nut case. But I have to say that you may find some pretty smart people out there without degrees. I have a couple and don't rate them as much as my college Higher Diploma. In fact a couple of the smartest people I have met barely attended school. But good luck in your quest. I am sure if you can get things together you would have the mix that script writers would dream of: a cast for a geriatric version of television's "The Big Bang Theory".

Have you been speaking to Jared Diamond of Harvard again?

You sound like he when you speak of degrees, and especially Harvard degrees.

Sure there are plenty of smart people without degrees, but how have they been educated?

Why should I spend the time to search for autodidacts in the rough when much of the filtering has been done for me by various universities?

Choose the university that you believe is closest to the ideal and then move in with a few grads is sort of my idea here.

I do agree that as we age we often become stranger, more excentric, and so maybe I should require references I can check in order to filter out the ringers. Often it is said that WYSIWYG is less true of farang in Thailand, and some are rascals.

My preference is still Thai housemates.

The forum is getting weirder every day, consistent with the recent farang arrivals I've seen in the city recently. Twice this week I've seen farangs talking to themselves.

I have stayed out of the city this week, if you had been wondering.

The OP does sound a lot like "Sheldon".

Of course it was Rummy Rumsfeld who said it best.

These same fellows who fear conspiacies are also fearful of microwave ovens:

I do enjoy a rack of lamb with a dry expensive white wine, and it is worth the increasing prices.

Turkey is also good with white wine and far more reasonable, and both meals are not Thai, so I don't eat either in Thailand, even for the upcoming western holidays.
