Is it easy for an non native English speaker to find an English Job in Thailand?? I have TESOL certificate??

I am also a non native speaker and Asian at that. I think there are plenty job oppurtunities for a non native speaker. There are some schools who are having non natives as of now, and has minimal problems with them. The TESOL certificate helps a lot also. I am Filipino, and it took me awhile to get a job but fortunately for me, I got hired and I am now working in a government college together with another non native English speaker (Scottish). Erm, I'm Scottish and I don't think I speak any language, other than English - as my mother tongue. I've never been aware of a language called Scottish - but you never know.

Some schools will hire non-native speakers - it depends on your language ability. Some schools are just happy to have a western face, irrespective of ability (within reason, of course).

Congrats on getting your job situation sorted out, Buki- you deserved a break. But I also wonder- what was the native language of that Scotsman?

Non-native but fluent English speakers who are highly qualified in other areas should not overlook the possibilities of working in EP/MP programs teaching other subjects, especially science and math which are always chronically understaffed.

Thanks Bukki for your reply. It sounds really good for opportunities in Thailand. I want to ask you this question, is there a high demand to teach French in Bkk?? That's I am wondering?? Because I am a French native speaker.

Not to rain on your parade.. but do understand as a non-native speaker, yet fluent in English.. if that face of your is not "WHITE WESTERN" in some areas you will have a challenge. The School Officials dating back from the WHITE is Right days.. do harbor this type of attitude. And of course the parents don't know any better at times.

It is still funny at times to hear "Educated" Thai school officials display their acumen between the difference of nationality and ethnicity.. Oh your not really from England, America, Aussie land because your face is asian not white.. But the biggest challenge you will face are the parents of your students...

So..if you can find a place that treats your right, pays you on time, and leaves you alone to teach.. TAKE IT.. But it seems.. your a BKK newbie.. go into eyes wide open.

I doubt it, in the western isles they are taught the Scottish curriculum and are subjected to the same media as the rest of us...
