You did well to pull into that shop as the one across the street has some steep prices as I've learned the hard way. Even Manit center is cheaper than the shop across the street.

Glad you had a good experience, which is IMO true most of the time.

That means I disagree with this part of it: "Ok its bad that when we are charged the Thai price for something I resort to posting about it as if its a good thing , yes it should be normal but as we know it is not the case most if time."

I had good service and a very good price at the one on the other side of the road BTW, where steelpulse was not happy with.

I've used BQuik (next to Jungceylon) a few times. No charge.I give 100 baht tip each time.

Nor charge and 100 baht tip for what?

So you expect me to just say thank you and drive off. I would happily pay 100 baht for a puncture repair, so I give it to the mechanic.

I'm not actually sure at this point. That's why I asked what they did. I would also be happy to pay 100B for fixing punctured tire. I certainly would have tipped for the service as well.

Then again. To fix the tire for free could be good marketing campaign from the shop. "It's free, and we would like to see you later on".

The people who are working at the shop get their monthly salary.

As tipping is not really part of the Thai society, it can alter the expectations for the workers as well. This means that the company can hire workers with lower salaries and tell them "we have plenty of well off customers, who will give you tips. That's why your base salary is so low."

That is my main concern when it comes to tipping. How much is fair and does not change the local balance.

That Goodyear place is very good..

I actually got two FREE tires from them.

Free from the junk pile on the side of the building to be used for tire/rope swings.

I did go inside and offer to pay for them but the thai guy inside said no need pay.biggrin.png

Be great if we could start a list of places that "do the right thing" and then let the Honest Traders know what we've done, thus encouraging more of the same.

Could also run side by side with a list of the Shonky buggers.

Went to pay and had a very pleasant surprise , the total cost , 120thb
Ok its bad that when we are charged the Thai price for something I resort to posting about it as if its a good thing ,

Thai price?

I live in Pattaya and pay 65 Baht for plugging a truck tire, and for 100 Baht the take it of the rim and vulcanize it from the inside .

People talk about the inflation in Thailand. But in many cases it is low.Look at what the price would have been in the UK,or the US.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to compare. Of course many services are priced much less in Thailand than the US, as the wages are much lower. But my tires in the US are warrantied, my tires in Thailand are not. I have gotten two free tires in the US when they didn't wear right, too bad if my tires don't wear right or last in Thailand, there is no warranty, even on my Micheline Tires made in Canada. And since the tires in Thailand are mostly imported, they cost more initially than the tires in the US. Also most tire shops in the US have free tire repair service, at least the ones near my house here in California.

Yesterday noticed I had managed to get a flat tyre on the car.

Fortunately very close to the Goodyear garage just south of Chalong Circle.

Pulled in asked them to fix the flat , this they did within 5 minutes also checked and inflated all the tyres to the correct pressure.

Went to pay and had a very pleasant surprise , the total cost , 120thb smile.png

So just a little cudos to that place for not trying it on when a farang pulls up on his own in the motor.

Thumbs up to Goodyear from me smile.png

They are extremely good at that place. Wheel balance is very cheap also. Like 200-300 baht if I remember correctly.

In regards to Thai and farang prices I always wondered if the guys who dress like Thais get discounted prices?

Sorry let me rephrase that: like a Thai that works in an office. You know. Pink polo shirts on monday. Green shirts on Tuesday etc. And Buddhist amulets on the outside of the polo

Yes after the puncture is fixed , inflation follows for sure...usually at double PSI than what is recommended tho'tongue.png

I'm not sure but from your comment in the OP ( Pulled in asked them to fix the flat , this they did within 5 minutes) it looks like you have a plug, as vulcanizing takes at leat half an hour to complete, so I assume you paid about double the Thai price .

Oh , Peter

Just for you , ill change my opinion and state .

Im happy to pay Phuket Thai Price , but why cant I pay the same as some farang does in Pattaya.

Fine, thanks for the correction, but last time I checked both Pattaya and Phuket were in Thailand.

Now just for you, next time i have a tire repaired, have my oil changed, bought a Som Tam or found a road with no potholes, I will start a thread how fantastic that is.

So your supposition is that because two places are in the same country their pricing should be the same ? Please you really believe that.

I look forward to reading your posts on pot holes .

Now can you except my op in the nature it was given , and that was to highlight a good service by a company here in PHUKET to fellow expats in PHUKET.

What a great example.

Same in Spain too.

The official explanation is that Consulates have to be self supporting.

Probably explains the outrageous prices for any documentation at the Brit Embassy Consular Section in BKK.

The consulates or embassies have no part to play in it now. We send documentation to Hong Kong, they send it to uk & it is processed and returned to you from the uk - after they have fleeced you of an extra £70 odd - barstewards
