BANGKOK: -- Caretaker prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday enjoyed a "duty tour" inspecting a customs office in Loei province and a bridge over the Mekong to Laos.

BANGKOK: -- She told reporters later her trip would end on Friday and that she would spend the New Year break from December 28 to January 1 in Chiang Mai. After, she plans to return to duty in "election mode".

During a photo opportunity with Thai and Lao officials at a border checkpoint she also visited, Yingluck joked: "There may be rumours about me leaving the country when these pictures [taken with Lao officials] are distributed."

Yingluck said she took her son along during the trip because she could offer him extra care.

Key caretaker government figures have been monitoring the political protest and movements of the antigovernment People's Democratic Reform Committee.

Yingluck made public a new Pheu Thai Party project on her Facebook page, saying that the Youth's Institution for Thailand, (http://www.facebook.com/PTnewgen), welcomes people between 15 and 30 to share ideas on political reform and other development projects.
