Construction Noise and working times?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I live in a residential part around Ratchada. So far everything was very cool around here, but some houses next to my condo building were torn down and new houses are contructed. I know they have to produce some noise while working, but do I need to tolerate when they work 24 hours and deprave me of my sleep at night? Sometimes I wake up at 2 am in the morning and the noise is unbearable. It's construction work and sometimes loud music from cars parked next to construction. How can I go about this? Can I just call the police. Will they help? Or would it be best to just move to a different place?

The big problem, with calling the police in, is that, if they show up at all, the first thing they will say is that the crazy farang (pointing in your direction) is bitching about all the noise. After that, the situation should resolve itself! thumbsup.gif

Sadly construction companies have deep pockets and know who to speak to.

I have seen projects in areas with other very wealthy Thais and even they could not get the construction at nights stopped.

Just look on the bright side, the more they work now, the quicker it will be finished.

Maybe they are just trying to complete a certain stage of work before the new year break when construction workers often return home.

I'm a noise magnet and highly qualified to talk about this :). Sorry, don't mean to be flippant as I know what you are going through. In my last house, three houses (to the left, right and straight across the road) in 10 years, and now in my current place, two houses being built across the road and major renovations to another off to my left (at one stage, four separate work crews powering up angle grinders at the same time - all within about 50 metres). Sad to say, there's nothing you can do. They will work when, where, and how they want, and consideration for others doesnt exist in their vocabulary. Invest in ear plugs and ear muffs, and book into a hotel every now and then to give yourself a break. That's all you can do.
