Bangkok siege set for Jan 13

If the army will intervene, then it will be somewhere from the 13th. It doesn't look like there will be elections in BKK february 2nd. Will sit back and see.

The previous coup was the night before the Yellow's planned big march. Suthep has advertised this upcoming event quite thoroughly.

Indeed he has. Perhaps after consulting the military.

A military coup would be the least desirable option, playing right into the hands of another great Red Shirt uprising a couple of years down the track, when they will trash the city, as they did last time, doing everything possible to discredit Abhisit Vejjajiva, ... given that he is reinstated.

It simply keeps the wheels of crap in motion. All the ignorant champions of 'democracy' worldwide will repeat the cries of foul on Abhisit, the most intelligent PM in Thai history. Thus he will again be forced to go to the polls, with millions of pea-brain Shinawatra disciples to ensure his demise. .. another Shinawatra takes his place ... ad infinitum.

There are just too many possible configurations to think about to express an objective opinion however anyone who admires Suthep needs to watch Robert Carlisle's portrayal of a certain Austrian Corporal who rose to some fame / infamy in Germany in the 1930s - there is also an Italian version of the same story.....

Along those same lines, "In The Garden of The Beasts" by Eric Larson, is worth a read. It encompasses the world of 1933 Germany and frighteningly details the rhetoric, rallies and non-democratic reforms (sound familiar?) which duped so many, under the guise of a blind nationalism, into following a totalitarian regime until it was too late to alter course. Déjà vu in action.

I find so much dangerous and illegal what Suthep is doing, in any other westerner civilized country he and other leaders would have been arrested on multiple counts...

But we have to remember we are in Thailand, and things does not work that way. Let's brace on 12th and hope everything will go well.

I see possibility of military coup before that day growing exponentially...

you mixed it up:

This is correct:

I find so much dangerous and illegal what the Shinawatra government is doing, in any other westerner civilized country they would have been arrested on multiple counts...

But in any other country, the government would never be allowed to be owned by proxy by a fugitive, the government would be held to account for their populist policies and lack of fiscal discipline and those in the jobs would have to be suitable for the jobs, not appointed by a fugitive to serve his own ends. Can't really compare to any other country, this situation is unique.

I see that most people don't want Thaksin govt.

I see that most people want Suthep govt.

If that is the case, why doesn't Suthep support elections on 02-Feb, when his party would win the ballot?

I've assumed (dangerous in any situation, and doubly perilous in politics) that Suthep is convinced his party would lose the election, and worse yet, that Yinglukck's party would win and she would continue to be Prime Minister.

Just so I get this right: someone is actually saying that life as we know it, stops in all of Bangkok on the 13th...and no one is going to do something about it?!

I mean...even if you are pro- Suthep, that must seem a little crazy, right?

And by the way: what will happen until then?

...and after that?

Oh...mai pen rai "we tell you later"!

No, not really. Life for us will go on as normal. He wants to close government offices and pressure the MP's. to close down the sham government. You will only notice anything if you go near those places. Just do whatever you would usually do and enjoy the show on the news later.

I already wrote my point on Shin clan, just few posts below the one you quoted, so I don't feel I have to write and write again my thought about Thaksin every time I write a comment about what a totalitarian power-monger wants to do. It's so clear that both of them just bring ruin and shame to this country.

Situation is unique, but getting worse by the days. And if no one does some actions, there will be a jump back of a century soon.

Another wave of action derived from convergence theory. When the success rate reduce, the matter gets desperate and more people feel despair. Let's look at what's next after these unproductive actions.

DMG...we know just how you feel:(

Because there are no free and fare elections, the current party in power bought their way to victory with handouts to the farmers

As much as I would like to see political reform and I did originally think that Suthep was justified in his peaceful protest, I just wonder why nobody has yet arrested him and put him in jail?

They had issued a warrant for his arrest and then nothing happened. Meanwhile people are being shot (including police) and yet Suthep boldly marches on as though he's completely untouchable.

Is this a case of the police being useless,... or of the left hand not knowing what the right it doing,.. or something else at play which can either not be explained or easily understood?

I tend to think that he's being endorsed by the Thai military and that the police know this. The military are silently allowing Suthep to lead a citizen's coup so they don't have to take the initiative to make the first moves themselves. All of this and yet Yingluck is (was?) minister of Defence!

Don't see much difference between Suthep & Gen Seh Daeng, both seem absolutely determined to harm Thailand. However, with the Army behind Suthep, he hopefully wouldn't suffer the same fate.....not that I like him at all, he's unbearably smug and self important. This "other" D day has to be the nudge and the wink for the military to "save the day", being announced with plenty of time to warm the tanks up.

I detest what's going on, and the notion of an unelected peoples council, but I think YS is going to have to swallow more humble pie and delay the elections. It could put a bit of pressure back onto Suthep.......she needs to make him look more unreasonable than she is in the eyes of people sitting on the fence and who maybe getting a little f***ked off with the PDRC "true democracy" love-in up on ratchadamnoen.

Why not just let the yellows have Bangkok as their country? (It'll be a sunken city in 50 years) and the rest of the country belong to the reds. See how Bkk gets on without any taxi drivers, cooks, cleaners and dare i say it, xxxxxx.

You seem to forget that disillusionment and anger at PTP isn't just in Bangkok. There's a lot of Thailand not painted red yet.

And dare you say it? Yes you did. And a lot of those important people were at the protests. So enjoy the show coming to your area soon.

See how the rest of the country gets out from under the rice mountain and debt pile too.

Thats great, and if true have an election..... oh wait

Even if YS resigned it would not stop.

Quite simply there is no option for people like Gen Prem that they need a friendly Government before the big D Day, otherwise him and many others are going to be up the proverbial creek with no canoe or paddle.

So just when was the latest final push and after that Suthep would give himself up??? just that he has said it a number of times it's hard to keep upxblink.png.pagespeed.ic.AQgCnSOpp_.png alt=blink.png pagespeed_url_hash=3007605675 width=20 height=20>

I must say I am losing count as well, I think that this is either the 6th or 7th FINAL push and suthep was suppose to turn himself in after each one of them, so much for his word rolleyes.gif It is amazing what lengths a person will go to, to try and postpone an arraignment for murder charges whistling.gif This clown suthep seems to want to leave this world a martyr and I think that he will likely get his wish sometime very soon wai2.gif

From ultimate to abide then to cling.......from good intention to pride then arrogance and loftiness. Please think for the country.

I think you have hit the nail squarely on the head. This is about Suthep trying to avoid the murder charges.

I also believe the army will not sieze power unless they are really forced to. The generals are not stupid and realise the likely serious consequences of a coup.

The next 2 months are going to be really interesting. In the mean time lets just sit back and enjoy watching the baht plummet.

As of now, a Pheu Thai party list MP ( party list - as in unelected ) has now taken it upon himself to threaten ten years imprisonment to any constituency election administrator that does not relocate registration locations ; the registration period has ended with well over 5 % constituencies uncontested, nullifying the election before it even takes place ; the EC continues to refuse to sanction unilateral actions of the administration that usurps their constitutional control of the process ; and Chalerm takes it upon himself to offer yet another charter proposal, even though acknowledging that the new parliament will not have the requisite number of MPs to function, as well as debunk the police chief's admission of the men in black. The administration appears to be imploding from within.
