live shrimp

Featured Replies

i am looking to buy some live shrimp for breeding .i saw them sometimes at the market where i live but recently they are dead when i get there .

not looking for some fancy ones for 100bt each just the small ones people use for frying with batter -they are called ghost or glass shrimp and about 1/12 or 2 inches long.

In the fish section at the Central Market 2 blocks opposite the US Consulate... you will see the tanks and blue buckets with live shrimp, turtles, red snapper, eels.... here is a pic of the eels.

uptoyoumyfriend ... this isn't exactly what you want but it might pique your overall interest in Farming Shrimp to eat.

My Thai gf (MissFarmGirl), her parents run a Fish/Shrimp Farm.

These two threads are good for some background info for you.

To my knowledge, almost all Saltwater Shrimps won't produce viable eggs for breeding in a fresh water environment.

The Freshwater/River ones might.

This is an example of one Video you will find in these threads ...

Oh, the Farm is just outside Bangkok, so not helpful for a supplier.

If you want to know more, send me a PM ... We've got lot's of info available in the Farming Forum.

You can buy them at huay tung tao at afew of the restaurants there. Unfortunately they don't have oxygen tanks and these ghost shrimp are easily stressed so most of mine died before I got them home.

Alternatively Kham tien market may have some.

They like moving/fresh water, my Mrs uses them for live bait when fishing.

A few hours in a bucket and they are only good for fritters.
