Customs questions

Featured Replies

I plan to bring into Thailand 2 x wooden ornaments, about 6ft tall approx 15kgs each, should i go through the green or red lane? Can iexpect the officials to give me a hard time?

Another questions is will the airlines charge me for oversize baggage, gold card member flying business class?

Any responses appreciated.

If they are not Buddha images I doubt customs will be interested, green channel, they may still want to x-ray them mind.

Assuming the wood is treated and polished, without bark, I doubt the plant / animal quarantine chaps will be interested either.

The airline however may have other ideas, at 6' they are likely to cause issues as 'oversize', you'll need to contact them before heading to the airport.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Contact the airline for your over-sized luggage issue and take the "red" line at customs.

They'll start with the question: Anything to declare? and you'll be able to explain.

If you're not sure.......do not take the "green" line.

They are unlikely to go unnoticed by customs as well who, at least out of curiosity, will be interested in looking at them. Probably better to speak to someone before choosing the red or green channel. Better you initiate the conversation than to have someone stop you and send you back for closer inspection, which might then extend to all your luggage.

I have spoken to the airline ( Emirates ), there will be no issue with excess baggage checking them in, the criteria is 3 meters before it has to go as freight only. They will check me in then have another counter for oversize baggage.

Well suggested to initiate the conversation at the other end, i have no problem if they want to open and have a look, i have nothing to hide.

Thanks for the input.

So got a bit of grief checking them in ( typical African attitude and BS )....after $$$

Went to the green lane at BKK, no issues, all pretty straight forward really.
