Speedy trial in Thailand?? Very interesting concept, indeed. How long has it been since the airport was closed? Interesting a person indicted for murder is still on the job.

How long has it been since the criminal conviction of the man cowardly mouse in Dubai? Interesting a person who has committed so many crimes has not been made to pay for any of them. Of course the law doesn't apply to Taksin or any of his cronies, they are all above the law....bah.gif

If NACC officials are truly independent, they should never get entangled with politics. They should condemn all who used it as if they are their tool. They should check the background of the complaint, question and scrutinize the intention of the complainers to avoid being used unscrupulously. They should make decision on principle of clear evidence not speculation, conjecture or personal opinion.

The problem here is not with the issue. It goes without saying that corruption should be investigated/exposed. But the dynamic duo...one with a long history of dodgy deals and it transpires that Abhisit was stripped go his status in the military fot submitting false documents so he could avoid being conscripted into the army. This guy offers himself as the leader of a party and possibly PM? It can't be real...

May be all of those in public office who have not done Military service should be investigated as to how they avoided it, just wounder how many would be left to run the country?

that seems the only charge that the PTP have leveled at Abhisit that has any credibility, yet the government is full of far worse sinners.

May be a coup d'état is the only answer

Well, there is a hanging offence right there!

I avoided doing the DoE award to Gold level because I had a doctors note saying I was too well to attend.

“The problem here is not with the issue. It goes without saying that corruption should be investigated/exposed.”

The problem is the issue.

I think we all support the rule of law. And that is the dilema here. The rule of law should have been applied a long time ago. If it had, we wouldn't be here at this juncture today. All I can see here is TS abusing democracy and causing everyone to fight among each other. Everyone wants democracy, but if democracy is allowed to been hijacked by corrupt politicians, then it is no longer a democracy. Let's bring Democracy back to Thailand.

The dilemma is that there is no personal accountability on either side of the political divide. The fugitive in Dubai did not invent corruption nor was he the first to abuse the democratic system. My simple inquiry is what is your proposal to bring back 'democracy' to Thailand? It can't be done through autocratic and dictatorial methods -- right?

It's not a simple answer as you may expect to hear. Many country with a young democracy faces this problem. Mostly corruption is at the height of the problem. Trying to apply a practice of democracy and not really understanding how it all became. Unfortunately, America had to fight hard to define democracy and that is why it is successful with it. And people remember because many people died in it. But even America has to be careful of it as well. If they don't guard it well, it will also fail them. Democracy is every citizens responsibility to care for.

I will take a people council that will reform the constitution over letting the politicians make the reform. That I am sure. And don't think these protesters will not be watching. All of Thailand will be watching. It is uncharted territory, but in life, what is sure. Democracy from country to country can not be compared. What works well in one country may not work well at all in other.

To the Foreigners supporting Yingluck, and her puppet government.

Please, open your eyes and ears.

Try to understand the damage they have done to this beautiful country.

Do you really want this to carry on?

Because, if elected, nothing will change, except the chance that her criminal brother will come back to do more damage.

Tell that to the Thais who have voting rights , and let them choose who to elect and put your party to the test.

let them choose who to sell their vote to, in other words

Let's assume, for argument's sake, that I agree with you. The basic problem remains is that nearly everyone is putting reform within the 'context' and 'prism' of abuses committed by Thaksin with no acknowledgment that the same excesses and abuses have been committed by both ends of the political spectrum. I don't trust any politician. Suthep has not made public any 'specifics' for his 'peoples council' nor has he made any attempt to provide an inclusive process to seek reform. Every act of reform will be political as it affects all Thai people. To put such a process in the hands of one individual is not democratic. Yes, you are in unchartered territory. But as long as hate is the driving force in making reform and not objectivity, it is doomed to fail.

The law in Thailand doesn't apply to the privileged elite - period. I saw in another post that asked - "Where was the people's rage over the son of the Red Bull matter. Or, for that matter, the elderly couple picking mushrooms in Isaan. If the average person in Thailand wants to fight corruption, the next time they are stopped by the police for a traffic violation, they should refuse the temptation to pay a bribe. That would be a great first step. That would be a true act of the people to reject corruption.

I support the 'rule of law' in Thailand. It is ludicrous and hypocritical for Abhisit to talk about the concept of a 'speedy trial'. IMHO all current and former MPs and PMs still living and under charges should be brought to trail as soon as possible - especially when such charges include murder. If Thailand wants real reform, then reform the judiciary and treat everyone 'equal under the law'. Reform corruption? It all starts with equal enforcement of the law.

pookiki some laws are very bad. Even if you use and enforce them, it does not help!

Look for example:

§ 376
Any person who without justifiable grounds shoots an explosive gun in a town, village or amongst a public gathering shall be liable to imprisonment for not more than ten days, or a fine not exceeding five hundred baht or both.
So you can fire a gun in a crowd (nobody hurt): 15 Dollar (500 Baht) fine!!!

Law must be reformed as fast as possible, is the only way.

- Bail regulation .
- Immunity of MPs
- Exclusion of condemning criminals from holding public office
- Tax exemption for certain persons,

-etc.

I agree and you are the first person I have seen who has made a post with no reference to Thaksin! A great start. It is not only the law that needs to be reformed but the judiciary as well. The rich in Thailand don't have to worry about the law no matter if it is good or bad. Many of the abuses of law or penalties occur because of a person's relative standing in Thai society. That is the most important issue that must be addressed. And any reform process must be inclusive, transparent, and, most importantly, democratic. Very difficult to do in today's polarized political environment.

Wrong "pookiki".

The airport fiasco was carried out by the Democrats and they benefit impunity.

When any Democrat (annex Yellow) does something wrong, the Judiciary system is put in reverse gear forever and ever.

I doubt the caretaker government want Abhisit's murder trail starting too quickly. The evidence I've seen looks like it shows the army to be guilty not Abhisit and Suthep.

2010 was tragic. But I believe Thailand has to move on from it . That is one reason why the amnesty bill was so important. Amnesty for Abhisit, Suteph and Thaksin must be part of the solution to this current situation

And, of course, you do realize the probable result of such amnesty. Thaksin returns, consolidates his power base and the Shin clan rules in perpetuity, notwithstanding the resultant carnage from the opposition likely to ensue. Is that really the outcome you desire?

Agreed with you Prbkk I also wished amnesty for all politically related cases. Unfortunately it does not cover cases involving corruption, irregularities, abused of power . This is why I believe the DEM and Suthep who is leading the DEMs PDRC have to distort and kill the bill to get PAD onboard their power seizing objective - so that they can sweep their crimes under the carpet or whitewashed and PAD has to join them because the bill to pardon them is now gone.

The amnesty is painful to the government because it suffers the lose of support from Red/UDD. Those who had loved one death or wounded find this is injustice.

But the government want to see reconciliation and unity to move the country forward and have been appealing people to forgive. I hope the process is that they will still be trials to know the truth, but the amnesty law is there to say - we love you and forgive you and let us move on for our future generation.

I don't see oppositions of the government doing anything to bring reconciliation, unity. Thaksin continue to be their tool to seize power. They are living in a 'victim mentality world'. They don't care if the people suffer or not. They want power to continue their evil practices.

Forgiving is not easy. You have to forgive yourself first (regardless of whether you have done anything wrong or not), before you can forgive other. Your inner turmoil and conflict will not go away by fighting them in trying to find justice.

If, hypothetically, there would be a PR firm hired by Thaksin to spin things in his favour, a post like this would be the sort of fthing they'll be doing.

Blaming the Democrats for how the "Amnesty" Bill was changed and came to be is so absurd that either the poster is a few sandwiches short of a picnic or is purposefuly trying to distort the facts.

It's probably useless to try convince TV readers of another concept as "Yellow or Dem's" but it is worth a try.

When I came to this country, now more than a decade ago, I loved this country and their people.

They lived a life without any interest in Politics or any other thing that would made them worry.

The Philosophy "Yesterday is the past and gone. Tomorrow is the future and unknown. Today is where we live in and we should embrace every second of it." seemed to be unreal to the way of life I had been teached for so many years, but it worked out pretty good for them.

The longer I stayed here n this country, the more I learnt to appreciate their way of living.

They did not worry who was the PM or who was governing them.

If one of them would be a wrongdoer, the lord Buddha would take care of that.

Not their problem.

My GF, when asked about this or any Political problem, used to answer: "I have no time to worry about these things. I live very happy and I want to keep living very happy.".

I also learnt very soon where my place in this country was.

I was a foreigner and "accepted" in this country as long as I don't meddle with Politics and Drugs.

In another forum, I was participating in a thread about paying "Tea money" to the police".

I was completely against this concept and I would never pay tea money to a police.

If I did something wrong, I would accept the consequences.

If not, I didn't see the point of paying a fine for something I didn't do.

Nevertheless, I was attacked by most of the other members that they were happy to pay a few Dollar/Euro to the cops if caught with wrongdoing.

Rather than go trough the whole system, pay lots of money to Court and Lawyers and end up with a criminal record.

But the most amazing thing was the same people who were happy with this "corrupt" legal system had their mouth full about the Political leaders in this country and how corrupt this country was.

I used to call them "Keyboard Warriors".

Back now to this topic and my answer to Costas,

I live in this "beautiful" country already for many years and I like this country.

I like to sit together with my neighbors or other THAI people, happy and laughing all the day.

No worry about anything.

Not sit together with foreigners, always complaining about the things that are wrong and listening to their wisdom about how they would do to make Thailand a better country. A copy of their country they escaped.

I am not a Red, Yellow, Black. Green, Purple, or any color shirt and I don't meddle with the Politics in this (and any other) country.

That is not my business.

Let the Thais handle that for themselves.

They have been handling this already for a hundred/thousand years and they have been doing it very well.

I don't like Thaksin.

But I neither like Abhisit or Suthep and his crazy ideas.

If you and so many other TV members are so acknowledged about the politics and how politics should be carried out, why don't you go to your own country and start changing it?

Start making of your country a tiny reflection about this paradise?

Most of us came to this country and stayed here because they liked this country AS IT WAS.

They were fed up with their own country and the Politics in their own country.

Leave the politics to the Thais and let them handle things.

That's the best way to live for years in this beautiful country and be ensured that this beautiful country will be tomorrow as it is today.

In the meantime, enjoy every day in paradise.

Enjoy your day mate.

Tomorrow you may be dead and all you did was talking about politics and how you hate Thaksin.
