Protesters besiege the offices of the president of Rajabhat Phuket University.

PHUKET:-- Following the grenade attacks in Bangkok on Friday and Sunday (January 17 and 19) that killed a Phuket man and injured dozens of other anti-government protestors, their counterparts in Phuket are today pumping up the pressure on local government institutions.

This morning hundreds of Shut Down Phuket supporters marched to Prawat Rd in Phuket Town – the road leading into Rajabhat Phuket University – where they besieged the government-run Channel 11 TV studios and forced them to close.

Currently they are in the university, demanding to speak with the university's president.

Suratin Lienudom, the leader of the protesters, using a microphone belonging to the college's PR department, began calling for the president an hour ago but he has so far not made an appearance.

It's lunchtime and tempers are fraying among the hungry protestors, a Phuket News journalist reports.

About 10 minutes ago the deputy president appeared. He told the protesters he could not order the university closed, but said that students could, if they wish, join the protest.

The protesters continue to demand that the president appear.

Tomorrow is expected to be a fractious day when the funeral of Patong-based minibus driver Prakong Choojan, who died of wounds sustained in Friday's grenade attack, is due to take place in Patong.

Hundreds of thousands of expats will be wondering what to do with their evenings now that Channel 11 is off the air.

The Thailand General Election is less than 2 weeks away. What is the point?

If the Thai Army stepped in, they would eventually have to call an election anyway.

Why don't the BKK protesters close all the govt. TV stations.?

Nothing coming out of them except BS.

No news coverage. no unbiased reporting.....only what the government wants the people to hear and see.

Very smart move sounds like the Democracy at it's best.

As usual you are clearly dazed and confused...Are you always purposely inflammatory, or are you really that _____

Actually believe it or not ( I am sure you won't ) in a true democracy every persons voice should be heard, everyone should be free to express their opinion without fear.

If this was a true democracy I would be very angry at the closing of a tv station in this way.

However since we have a Toxsinocracy full of lies and venom caused by the fugitive in Dubai, the closing of any media outlet that spreads his hate and lies and is clearly biased against his opposition can only be a good thing for the country...

The university might as well be closed as the "students" don't learn anything anyway.
